I hear a lot about how fishing gets slower during Full Moons. So I ask people why. I've heard that it has something to do with gravity, and i've also heard that fish eat more during the full moon nights.

I am still curious to find which reason it is, or if it's not either of those reasons! So please give me more sugestions?

Thanks!

think about this: during a full moon...the silhouette (I had a hard time spellchecking that word)  of your prey becomes more visible when your swimming underneath 'em  :smt002

So what excuse can I use when it's a cloudy night on the full moon?

Full moon means bigger tide swings.  As does new moon.  Don't ask me what that means. :smt009

Tides might have something to do with it but I have heard the same thing in freshwater...

personally I have tried to keep track of the moon swings compared to my fishing and my conclusion is this, It dosent matter if you put something yummy in front of a fish that wants it he is going to bite I dont think fish get full like we do. plus most iron and crome jigs are hit because thay anger fish and cause them to strike out  of instinct not hunger. Ive caught some fat fish on no moon days and some normal fish on the day after the full moon, again I dont think it matters.IMHO
Where did he go george

For bay fishing, big tide swings are very good.  At least in San Diego.

I've alway seen good fishing during full moons.

I think it is more an old wives tale than anything else.

Maybe they are hiding from the warefishes. :smt021

Ya that was my theory too... until these people come up with this nonsence about "fish feed more on full moon nights" and "tide changes stuff!
 :smt002

Ha ha ha!

I do think it's because fish can see their prey better at night, because when I went to Lost Lake with a couple friends I was slamming the trout on the days that had a half moon. And besides catching the fish.... they were rising like crazy ALL throughout the day! But as the week went on and the moon was getting bigger, It was more challenging to catch fish. And they were still rising but not as much! The very last night we were there it was a full moon! I got up before everyone else the next day and went fishing! I only saw about four rises all morning and only one bite out of at lease 20 casts.

And when that happened I thought, "Well Mooch and Bill must have been right."

But I appreciate hearing all of your theories!

I just found this book and it seems to be the only serious book on the subject of moon phases and fishing.

BSteves might know the most but this is what I have read and heard before.  The Full moon definately affects the feeding pattern of fish.  Not all fish. Trout are one fish who will feed more when there is a full moon, striped bass do as well.  Of course this is night time.  The effect that it has on the fish during the day is debatable.  As James said, if you find fish and jingle something tasty in front of them they will probably eat it.  However, the morning after a fool moon it is believed that fish are less active, thus a little more difficult to catch.

My experience.

CLear lake 03,  One week camping trip.  Day1 16 bass in the morning, Day 2 12 morning, Day 3 12, morning, day 4 no fishing.  Day 5 11 fish,  5th night almost full, morning of the sixth, 3 fish, the morning of the 7th 4.   Bass fishing.  However the catfish were going nuts.  I feel there is something to the full moon. However one trip does not make an experiement valid.

they are less active because they gorge themselves with food during a fool moon (a full moon makes baitfish more visible for a bigger fish swimming below) = at least that's what I've read from an article - If I remember correctly, it was from Field and Stream  :smt002
