I had a nice conversation with Dino, the U.S. rep for MacSki.  He promptly returned my call after I inquired about their fishing kayak called the MacSki Kingfisher - another beautiful fiberglass import from South Africa.  It's one slick looking fishing machine  :smt007 with some interesting cockpit features like a handy rectangular tackle tray hatch cover under which you can supposedly store your fish and/or rods up to 7' long.  Also, built into front deck area is a netted concave front deck that can serve as a tankwell.  We sure would like to get one up here to demo!

Mfr specs:  14.3' long,  25.3 wide,  59.5 lbs

Dino forwarded us this link to Cap'n Jimbo's review on the Kingfisher:

Nice boat Chuck did you see the option of a Plexiglas cover so you can keep your FF dry and still see it. That Guys gotta get a new PFD.
That's the boat that's being Raffled off for Chef. Too bad we can't buy raffle tickets. Hay that would be cool idea to do an online Raffle not only would it raise big money it would give the Co.donating the prizes a lot of exposure.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

There are a few of these in So. Cal.  They look interesting, but the hull was not as appealing to me as the Dorado.  They do have a few very cool layout features however....cool no matter what.

Hey Mike... that plexi cover would be nice for a handheld gps too.

Big THANKS to MacSki for stepping up an donating a Kingfisher for very worthy cause!  :notworthy:
The exposure got my attention for sure.
An online raffle would be neat idea.

I definitely wanna test paddle both the MacSki and the Dorado!

I talked to DIno today. New container shipment on its way to him and he'll send one up to us for demo. ChuckE, let me know when it comes, I want to take it out on the Bay and test it. Wish we could get a Dorado here to compare as well but they aren't reppresented in the US anywhere as far as I can tell.

Me too.  I can't wait to demo both.  I'll let you know when the MackSki gets here.

As for the Dorado.... Sean is the only game in town and I'm sure he'll hook us up for a test paddle.

I had a nice discussion with Fishing Marmot regarding the Kingfisher this morning. He pointed me to this forum, great site you all have here.  I’ve been paddling one since February and have so far been very pleased with it as a fishing platform.  It surfs exceptionally well and I really like its uncluttered deck.  I've started a more formal review, that I hopefully will be able to finish soon.

Here are a few pics.  I actually don’t have many of the Kingfisher itself.  Next time out, I’ll try to take a few more “in use” shots.

Hey DMR.... WELCOME and THANKS for the pics.  I particularly like the one with the YT on the deck (isn't that what it's all about  :smt003) .... and the garage shot that shows the relative size of your two yaks.

I look forward to your review.

Derek,

Welcome and thanks for talking with me this morning. Dino is going to share Dennis Spike's review as well as soon as he get's it--Dennis is down in Mexico (probably rancho Leonero) and that last thing he's probably thinking about right now is typing on a computer  :smt005.

I just finished the shake down run on my new internal bait tank/live well.  No leaks and the pump self primed with no problems.  Having the bulk of the tank volume below the water line is so much nicer.  Also, no more drag from an external pump or bait tube.  The intake and overflow drain outlet are near the skeg and rudder.

I'm running it on a timer for a net flow rate that equals about 10 tank volumes per hour.

More pics of the install here

I borrowed design concepts and bought the timer switch and some plumbing items from Angler's Yak Shack

Now I have to get out of the office and back on the water.
