Went out of Monterey today with Dad and other family on Capt. Chris's party boat. Boat must of had about 40 fishermen and fisherladies onboard. But that turned out to be a good thing. Because they tend to take you further when the boat is full, weather permiting.
We left the Monterey harbour @ 6:40, motored for about 2 hours south. We were close to Peidras Blancos Pt. and 4 to 5 miles out in 200 ft of water. There was a pretty good swell today, a lot of chumming going on....lol
Just about everyone limited out on a variety of rockfish.
I hooked two lings, landed a underling and lost a close to 30 incher at the boat. The deck hand was extra busy untangling lines and by the time he was next to me with the gaff, my ling was able to cut through my 30lb test like butter. Next time I will use a foot or so of wire on the leader. Hooked him on a extra lg scampi w/12 oz. lead head. He damn near swallowed that thing. NOTE to self: bigger the bait, the bigger the fish.
Switched back to a diamond bar and pulled in a huge yellow eye/released, then hooked a Vermillion about 8 lbs, biggest Ive ever caught. A couple of other reds and some of the biggest Yellow tails Ive ever caught also found their way into my sack.
All in all a fun day of fishing with Pops. But I need to get the Yak in the water soon. The swell is not worth the effort right now. Hope we get some good water later this week. Later, Kimo               sorry no pics, wife took camera to Tahoe

For me, more chumming happens on PB than on Yak. The mixed smell on PB sends me chumming faster plus other factors. Good to know you had the limit and big fish.

You guys went out of Monterey & came all the way down to Piedras Blancas?  That's a long haul?  I takes me an hour to drive from Monterey to PB doing 35-45 mph down the 1.
