Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Kastking Spartacus Maximus???
« on: December 19, 2017, 10:02:17 PM »
I had previously rulled this reel out, but after thinking about how I'm using the Kastking Spartacus plus I suppose it'd be worth asking about.  Is anyone using it and how do you like it.  Has it been dunked and survived?  My dawia spinners have been dunked and still work great, same with my TR200-G.  How does it feel with 10+ lb fish on.  Is the drag smooth and consistent? I had to grease the plus to make it smooth, it increased the drag power as well.

I'm either picking up the Kastking Spartacus Maximus or the Dawia Lexa 300 HD or WIN.  I like long handles and I primarly want to use it bottom fishing but will use it bass fishing or anything with weight 1/2 ox to 8 oz

How does it work in those appalications.

Right now I'm using a Kastking Spartacus plus with a prower handle on it.  I havent had a problem with 26" lings but I do notice a lot of flex in the reel when they pull drag.  I'm a little skeptial about buying it becasue the plus advertises 17lbs of drag but I can just barely break 10lb mono in a straight line pull.  I don't feel like I need more drag but I don't want to feel the flex (worried it will blow up if I hang a big fish).

Any imput is appriciated

Do any of you use the Dawia Lexa 300 HD or WIN.  I've read the first generation doesn't like salt.  Looking at the WIN it seems like a copy of the first generation with a new paint job and handles.  I'd prefer the double handle of the WIN but prefer the 6 CRBB and stainless gearing of the HD.

Any realy world experience would be helpful.

I've also looked at the Tranx 300, Concept A3, Toro Beast, and Komoto.  Main reason I'm leaning towards the Lexa is its still about 45% cheaper compaired to the cheapest mentioned.  I really like what I've read about the Tranx but its nearly 100% more so thats not happening.

Thanks

General Talk / PS2 Keyboard
« on: September 24, 2017, 09:14:20 AM »
Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of fixing a computer that had the motherboard go out.  Rebuilding it with all new hardware and windows 7 doesn't support usb keyboards so I can go through the repair to upgrade my system. I don't want to wipe the windows 7 because it has a few programs I don't have the product keys to any more.

If anyone had an old PS2 keyboard and would be willing to let me borrow it a day or to, maybe a week.  I have several back east in VA.  Never thought I'd need a PS2 device again.

I'm in Salinas so if your close I could drive to meet you or something.

Went fishing in Monterey Bay.  Launched at the Best Western off of 1.  Surf wasn't to bad most breaker were coming in around a foot or a foot and a half with sets of 3 to 5 getting close to 3 feet.  Caught 2 nice rock fish, released 1 and had 2 really nice hits and one other bite.  Only fished for about 3 hours and I'd never been there before so all in all not bad.  Also caught lots of bait.  Had a whale breach about 40' from me and scare the crap out of me.  First whale I've seen at least twice my height on the water and two to three times the length of my kayak, and that's just what I could see coming out of the water.  I would have been cool with if I I'd heard it coming, but the first breach was right beside me.. I made a b line for open water.  Anyway it made for an extremely eventful day.

I saw 4 other yaks fishing so if anyone is in the area and wants a fishing buddy message me.

Hey Everyone, I'm originally from Virginia, but I'm living in Salinas now.  Finally got my kayaks out here and I'm looking to learn the area and hopefully get a fishing partner/s.  I'd like to do some open water halibut fishing, been researching it a lot, I love to pound flounder back in VA.  Also looking to get into rock fish and lings.  Only thing I really need is a VHS radio and a fishing partner (probably shouldn't go a few miles out alone, at least according to the guy at the tackle box).  Bounced some jigs in moss landing the other day, had a few bites and caught one bait stealer. Went out in Monterey bay and caught some rockfish.  Taste pretty good, looking forward to going out again.

Anyway I've got a Hobie Outback and a Jackson Kraken 15.5  I love them both but the peddle drive wins out in current when you want to hold on a spot, or any other time you want to go hands free.  Anyway hit me up if your headed out in the Monterey area.
