Can anyone give me some suggestions on buying my first kayak. I am a avid fisher, especially fly and bass. I want to buy a used one, but there are so many on the market I am completely confused. I don't think I want to go out in the ocean, but will go everywhere else. I like the sit on top kayak, but what about being stable. I am sure I am going to get some good information.

Thanks for any help Chris

My advice to you is to demo a few kayaks before making any decisions.  A good way to demo lots of boats is to join one of the NCKA events (most people will let you paddle their boat to get a feel for it).  There an event coming up on October 6th at the American River, and another the week after on the Delta. If you are buying new, then I would also recommend going to a NorCal based paddle shop. There are quite a few shops that support the local kayak fishing community and have great customer service.  Headwaters in Lodi is one such shop.

Sit on tops are extremely stable.  The only time I fish out of a sit inside is when the temp drops below 30, as the closed deck helps keep my legs warm.  Other than that it is Sit on top all the time.

Welcome to the madness!
