thx,

Eric

The California groundfish regulations for 2011-12 recently adopted by the Fish and Game Commission will not be ready for implementation on Jan. 1, 2011 as planned. These regulations conform to federal regulations adopted by the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC). However, due to procedural difficulties encountered with the federal rule making process, the 2010 regulations will remain in place until further notice.

“We are working closely with our federal fishery management partners to establish an implementation date,” said Department of Fish and Game (DFG) Marine Region Manager Marija Vojkovich. “We will announce the effective date for the new regulations as soon as it has been established. Until then, we ask that fishermen continue to follow the 2010 rules.”

The new California regulations were developed in collaboration with fishery constituents, other Pacific states, PFMC and the National Marine Fisheries Service over the past 18 months.

Anglers are advised to check regulations before targeting federally managed groundfish, as the proposed 2011-12 changes included modifications to fishing seasons, harvest limits, bag limits and species compositions, trip limits, fishing depths and gear constraints for rockfish, lingcod, cabezon, greenlings, California scorpionfish (sculpin) and other species.

Thanks for that info, Mike.  If the opener up here is on May 15th again (as it likely will be) the tournee will be on Sunday, May 15th.  So arriving Saturday and staying at least through Monday will be a good plan.  There are some great tides a littler later in the week for anyone who hangs over a few days.  If you hang over for a few weeks we'll call it "Sledging".   :smt003

So is the tourney only for the one day? (sunday). Or is it longer?

The tournee is one day.  Activities around the tournee last and last...

If salmon season is open there will no doubt be people arriving Thursday/Friday to do some trolling, and Pacific Halibut season opens May 1st, so that and ab diving are open too - not to mention crabbing.

The tournee being Sunday (likely), we start at dawn, end mid-afternoon, party into the evening.

Right-on Eric. I am  sooooo looking forward to this. It is Natalie and mine's favorite ncka event. Once we finally get there. I have never been disapointed with the fishing and quality of fish. Natalie loves the beach down in front of the hotel because it has sandy castle building and tide-pooling. I may even bring the golf clubs this year.

Wooo Hooo!  I am ready.  Sunday just means there will be some Ab and spear carniage before the tourney starts.  I may bring my scuba gear this year to hit that reef in front of the hotel this year.  Big lings await....

Thanks Eric!  You are the heart of GMS, and we all appreciate it!

Merry Christmas!

Matt
