Saturdays tournament highlights.
Mooch talked to a girl!
A whole day of smack talking on channel 69.(it was brutal).
NCKA-represented well, I think 9 of the first 13 spots.Including second place for Mako1 (master Juan).Congrats on a cash winning fish(it was a pig).Jellyfish also won in the youth division.
There was a raffle with a table of assorted fishing lures and tackle and a "Autumn Memories" puzzle which Sean coveted.
A great potluck hosted at Sean and Leah Whites lovely home.
The food included BBQ oysters, pulled pork, fried abalone, lumpiah(Joels old family recipe),spam musubi, noodle salad, smoked steelhead, smoked salmon spread, sesame green beans, salads, several desserts, and of coarse copious amounts of liquid refreshments containing alcohol.
Did I mention Mooch talked to a girl.(the Mendo campers have stories)
Winning fish and Jellyfish at awards handout.
I didn't take many pictures I hope others will post the group picture, etc. when they get home.
-
The fishing was slow and the shad only came up in spots. The yaks were split between Crappie Cove and the North launch. There wasn't much happening in the striper boil department.
This was my days catch.I boated 3 stripers, one released, and 1 small largemouth that wasn't gonna make it.Not much in the size department, but at least some action.
-
can you guys please resize your pics. I,m on dial up and it will be next week till i get to see what i missed.
-
Nice work guys and congrats to Juan! You earned that one brother!
Mooch and a girl?!?!?!?!? :smt007 :smt044
-
Like seemingly all tourneys, I didn't get to fish much as I was workin', but I sure enjoyed seeing the yaks bury the PB's in the number of fish caught. Juans fish was nice, and would have won last year, but the lady who won fishes at Mendo ALL of the time, and is super nice, so hats of to Mrs Ingram!
I did however get to enjoy the potluck at the house and all I can say is WOW. The food was NCKAs best to date...everyone left :fat The menu variety and quality was off of the charts. Thanks to everyone that came over...great party!!!!
-
Congrats to Juan and Jelly. We all know they deserved to place!
Glad everyone had a blast. I was so bummed for missing out the fishing and the epic potluck. I was going to call in sick at work Saturday morning... but my conscience got the best of me. Someone had to make sure all of those Mothers Day packages arrived on schedule and got delivered to their destinations on time.
-
Had a great time Thanks Leah and Sean for your Hospitality great food everyone. Bummer when we woke up Sunday Morning fishing poles and paddles were stolen from some of the yaks :smt013
-
MORE PICS! Sucks about the poles and paddles, bastard thieves...
-
Great report and pics. Nice job, all.
Mooch and a girl?!?!?!?!?
The odds of Mooch repeating as AOTY have dropped dramatically... :smt008
-
It was a great tourney and get together! I can't believe I didn't take one photo :smt013. I think that was because I was sooooo coooold! I wish I could have recorded some of the smack talk on the radio, it was priceless!
The food and company at Sean and Leah's was outstanding! Thanks again to everyone! I can't wait until Elk.
CHEERS!
P.S. I went skunkless with a 9 pound 13 ounce striper.
-
My camera had been sitting on the table at Seans, but with all the eating, drinking, and lying, who had time to take pictures.
That is a major bummer about the thievery!
Can someone post the group shots.
The smack talk was "savage".
-
Man I love NCKA. This gathering turned into an outstanding weekend. And I went striperless. I did manage stick 4 LMB's and a smallie on game day. Unfortunately I am sans camera right now. I have no idea where it is.
Saturday was very cold. Lot's of us were underdressed, thinking the sun would come out. It didn't come out until we were well into the apres-tournament festivities. I think there were 13 fish weighed, with I think 10 of them coming from yakers. Considering there were like 63 registered, 17 of which were kayakers, NCKA showed extremely well!!!
Saturday night Sean and Leah were gracious hosts and we proceeded to mow down the food. We went through multiple courses, and then desert appeard. Man I was so stuffed last night. Thank you so much Sean and Leah! Too cool!
Bad karma will come the way of the thieves, I'm sure of it. :smt013

-
Congrats to Juan and Jelly. Looks like the local edge came through. :smt002 Major bummer about the theft. Mooch, I hope that nice paddle of yours, wasn't one of them.... :smt011 Last week when I was there, I was a little concerned about that possibility, so I humped my stuff up to the van each time... Shame you even have to worry about those things... wish I could have been there, but other duties called.
-
Major buzz kill about the paddles and rods...thieves suck!
-
Awesome job! Way ro represent! :smt004
-
Man, great laughs, talk, and food. Sean and Leah, thanks for the invite and hospitality.
The tourney was fantastic because the yaks ruled!
At the other end of the spectrum is the thefts. I'm not going to be comfortable there for a while. That is a disappointment and I hope karma does it's thing. :smt011
I am now sooooo tempted to make it to every single event and bring newbies with me as well.
Fish on brothers!
-
WTG, Yak-community! Sounds like an awesome event. :smt001
-
Awesome represent NCKA.. Outstanding...Jelly, I'm pulling for you( AOTY)!!!
Wish I could have been there, The White Host sounds like a life saver and quite a treat...
About the scumbags, The universe repays in Spades :smt003............Danglin
-
Congratulations all, glad you all had a good time fishing and it sounds like the shin-dig at Sean's was a total success.
Way to represent!
-
Ill post more later. Allen - cant thank you enough for giving me a high-end replacement paddle after the crooks walked off with mine, that was too cool dude!
-
Another awesome weekend with the NCKA Crew :smt002 Had fun talking story with da bozzz by the campfire. Ben, thanks for the smirnoff ice :chug Had fun playing some old school volleyball with Terry / h2o spider and :smt061 :smt060.
The Tournament went well and I was glad to see more NCKA'ers participate this year. CONGRATULATIONS TO JUAN / MAKO :headbang: :smt023 for the second place finish :kick :metal I felt good knowing that the money would support the striper fishery in Lake Mendo - I must say that I have spent many fun weekends at this particular lake - not just because of the awsome fishing but also because of the cool cats that I get to fish (and camp) with. Thanks to Sean for keeping NCKA on the loop :smt002
The after Party was "supreme". Lot's of variety on the dinner table and the company was even better! Many thanks to the White family for their hospitality :salut:
Woke up Sunday marning only to find out that Nate / Bungle and his buddy Dave had their rods stolen from their yaks :smt011 (parked at the shoreline). Ben's paddle (the one he won at the Elk raffle) and a net (a gift from Anita) was also stolen :smt011 The crime was reported to the Park Ranger.
....regarding :smt060 :smt061.......I was bummed to find out that she's married....yeah, like I had a chance :smt001 but I must salut :salut: the man she married, he is one lucky guy....he must be jealous to have to share her beauty with the rest of the world. I must say this, her smile CAN launch a thousand kayaks :smt045 :smt055
Heart Broken :smt010
Joel da mooch
ps: I need a drink :chug

ps: I need a drink :chug
Don't do it Mooch. After seeing you binge on 4 drinks this weekend, I'm starting to worry about you. See, it's just a little after 9 and you're already thinking about drinking. Women will do that to you.
Fight the urge Mooch. FIGHT IT. :smt068
-Allen

...it's too late...I'm sipping a smirnoff ice as I type this.... :smt087

I won't believe the Mooch report with out photographic evidence. :smt002
Great job on the catching! I bet fishing only gets better as the water gets lower.

Well done fellas.. NCKA represent!! Congrats to all those who won and major bummed I missed out on the afterparty @ SCWA's house.. :smt012 I have to make it back down there for some more tourneys but BAM is gone and ELK is full.. :smt012 But I will be back!!
BTW.. nice work Mooch! And don't give up. Chicks are like fishing at Mendo, you have to fish there many times and get skunked before you get a nice one. Persistence!

Sean/scwafish,Chris/jellyfish,Andy/kicking bass,Dan/Mahi Mahi and Mark/fishshim showed up at the SBA tourney with their very own NCKA Chapter known as the "Mendo Crew" :smt005....which I thought was a great idea. I think I'll do another NCKA chapter....it will be called "The 650 Crew" (peninsula area code) :smt002
Unfortunately for the "Mendo Crew" they did not include Juan/Mako from Willits...as he represented well at the Tourney with his second place finish :smt011 .......NICE GOING DAN :smt075 :smt011 :smt003
Don't worry Juan...."The 650" will adopt you :smt002 :smt003

Sorry I had to leave early since my allergy hit me badly!!!

That was an awesome tourney (yakers rock!)& great seeing all of you!!! Thanks everybody to bring all goodies & thanks so much for the Whites to invite us to their nice home!!!
I didn't get the striper that day, but I hooked a Cormorant... It (I don't know he/she) right there where the shads were, so I swear I hooked striper. It went down hard fast & came up fast, like big fish does... Anyways, I didn't think CSBA won't counts as pts, so I should have use it as a fishing bird like the Japanese "Ukai"s do, but it was way too feisty me to handle. (It was snapping at me & making all kinda scary noise...)

P.S: Making of this video animals were harmed (not intentionally) but safely released...

First and Second place winners!

Oh, by the way, here is pics of nite before Jim (Inseine Hobbs) got his first fish of year (nice 20inch LMB)!!!
I got a nice striper that nite too (see previous post by Mickfish).
sorry hear that theft... :smt010 that's so messed up :smt013.
& mooch next time I'll bring "the girl's drink" for you! ;-)
-
The bird you hooked is a grebe. Cormorrands are all black. (they also make better fishing birds :smt002)

Thank you, Jonez! I know fish but not bird (I didn't do good on my bird class...) It had bright red eyes that looked very creepy...
-
Disappearing gear aside, my first trip up to Lake Mendo was great.
Didn't get a striper the entire trip, but the LMB helped keep the skunk away.
I'd been trolling a minnow around all morning during the tournament with nothing to show for it. With about a half hour left before the scale closed, I was heading back in when I picked up three bass almost one right after the other and lost a fourth. I only took that picture of the first one and then stopped messing with the camera in an attempt to get bait back in the water quickly hoping for a last minute striper. No dice though.
Congrats to Juan on 2nd place, and to the rest of the kayakers who put the smack down on the boaters.
-
These guys were everywhere...

CRANKSTERS ! :smt011
-
Thanks Adam, that's perfect. I have a pre-fillet photo from home, but this is much nicer. I'll be sure to give you the photo credit.
I'm sad I had to miss out on the pre-tourney campfire and the post-tourney feast at the White's. My wife's been stressing about her dissertation and I probably shouldn't have even come up for the 12 hrs I was there.
Congratulations to Juan for 2nd place, all the kayakers for showing the power boaters up on pure numbers, and to Mrs Ingram for her 1st place toad.
I didn't get a bite until just after the start of weigh in (I'm so glad weigh in was between noon and 1pm and not until noon). Anyway, I had just decided to paddle the remaining 200 yds back to shore to grab lunch (I hadn't eaten anything since I got up at 3 am) when about halfway to the beach.. fish on... 10 lbs 14 oz and 30.75 inches.. Good enough for 5th place I believe. Actually, the only thing that really matters there is that it was bigger than Mooch's striper.
Brian
-
Everyone please chime in on their catch so we can get the final standings.....
Brian - 10 lbs. 14 oz / 30.75 inches
Joel - 10 lbs. 7 oz / 30 inches
-
I think these are some of the weights..
Mrs. Ingram 18lbs + to win
Juan 11lbs 14 oz, for 2nd
Some PBer 11lbs 4oz (or was it 11 oz) for 3rd
Ben 11 lbs even for 4th
Brian 10 lbs 14 oz for 5th
Joel 10 lbs 7 oz for 6th
-
I beleive Jelly is a contender as well in the youth class, even though he can outfish most adults.
It was a great weekend, good freinds, fish, humor, and fish.
-
My fish was 8lbs 14oz.
