Hello everyone!

New to the forums, been poking around for a while. I'm 35 years old. Live in Davis work in Sacramento. Getting back into fishing and have been researching a good all around recreation/fishing kayak for months. About ready to pull the trigger. Look forward to joining the community. I mostly fish for trout, salmon, or bass but am looking to expand my horizons. Hoping a kayak will open up a world of possibilities.

-Tyler

Welcome Tyler,

I went to school in Davis. Live in Sacramento now.

Hope to fish together sometime! Shoot me a pm when you're free and willing!
if I'm not fishing I'm probably thinking about fishing

Thanks everyone! Looking forward to getting my first fishing Kayak. I've been keeping an eye out on craigslist and facebook market place but just havent found any good deals on the types im looking at.

I need to get over to Adventure sports in Citrus Heights and take a look at their stock. Been looking online but only so much research i can do online. They close at 5 so getting there after work during the week is out of the question. Does anyone know if they will let you try out Kayaks on the water before you buy? Looking to spend somewhere around $1k. My favorites so far are the Vibe SG130, Pescador Pro 12 or Ocean Kayak Prowler BGII. I want something that will be comfortable and fun to fish from but would also work for nice casual days paddling around the lake with the wife.

Welcome SaltyCoffee!

I strongly urge you to check out Headwaters in Lodi. Dan Arbuckle is an awesome dude and can definitely help you. They also do demos at Lodi Lake too.

I just got a Vibe Sea Ghost 110 a few weeks back.  Wind permitting I'm headed to the bay Sunday for day 2 after halibut; small sample size, but day 1 off the Alameda rock wall was awesome.  Super stable, really well laid out, and you get a lot for the sub-$1000 price point.  The rudder's great for drifting or slow trolling in light wind.  I ordered direct from Vibe, they got it here in about 5 days.  No complaints!

Heya, Salty. I’m in Davis sometimes and Capitola others. Welcome to the board and the crazy. There is NO more exciting fishing experience than in a kayak. While I prefer marine to freshwater, not everybody can access the ocean. Saltwater is ridiculously fun and unpredictable, but you’ve got some good landlocked options. In Davis/Sacramento, the deepwater channel would be a great spot to acclimate to kayak fishing. Happy to connect if you’d like.
