only time I can fish is sunday evening. It's not dark-dark until 9.  I'd be aiming to be launched by 6 p.m; in by dark.  Last time I had a friend with me, this time I'm solo.  company might be good.

hoping to go rockfishing. somewhere.

warning: I have no radio, no gps, no fishfinder,  no PFD, no net.  I do have
a drift sock so even if there's wind and some chop, I'm down for a drift or two. I've got a gaff. eskimo-style I guess. actually I also have kayak
wheels. I've been thinking 4-mile beach might be fun.

At the least, I'll do for you what I do for my surfing bud whenever he drops in on somebody big and has to defend himself. I'll call 911 after it's over,  :smt003

I can meet at launch spot, or edgewood park and ride on 280 or los gatos park and ride on 17. I have a full size pickup with a ladder rack. I can
drive over the hill.

my digits: six-5-0  two-two-four, twenty-two, ninety. call me during the day sunday if you want to fish sunday evening.

I could probably use some tips from Joel regarding looking good in photos, but that's me with the vermillion from last sunday night in the other thread. a repeat would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

congrats to all the derby competitors! I'm not at that level, but I love
reading about it.

it was full on victory @ sea.  I went out at scotts again. lots of wind.  super choppy. underwater part of the time, airborne the other.
had to use about 8oz of weight to get any kind of non-horizontal line.

However, I caught some fish. 2 gophers, 1 black/blue and what might
have been a brown? I tried to keep the brown, but bungled it with
my new game clip (did get the black on there, released the gophers),
and did the unplanned release.

no seasickness, which is interesting, these days I deploy the drift
chute starboard, my kayak has no seat, so while drifting, I sit backwards, bow to sea, me facing the shore and stern, milkcrate in front of me.

unless there's no wind next time I'll go to SC for the next sunday evening
angling attempt. that was fun, in a kind of masochistic way, but surely
all fishreman are sadists?

later.

John,
Great to see your getting out on the water so often.
In general, mornings usually provide the best fishable window.
The wind usually comes up pretty strong during the afternoon on the northcoast, so watchout.
4 mile beach is a great option-killer halibut grounds from the inside of the kelp out from 3 miles up to RWB, then a sik reef out in 70-150 ft or so.
We used to kayakfish that spot all the time back in the day, but its been awhile.
Good luck
B
Livin tha pirates life full time! Catchin big cbass in tha kelp all summer long Have fun, live well, conserve the resource, and ask me about my secret fishing spots. but I probably won't tell you, cuz their secret!

thanks for the 4-mile tips brendan.  I've surfed there so much it feels like
a second home sometimes.

when one has a family, sometimes the evening is all that is available, so it's wind and chop or nothing.  I knew it wasn't good kayak-fishing weather @ scott's but I had to try it and find out exactly how bad. the jones would have to be pretty strong for me to go out in those conditions again. If I'm fishing an evening again, I'll brave the crowds close to santa cruz next time. when I drove by 4-mile coming home, I could see the kelp keeping it way way calmer.

Btw, Leo is stoked on kayak fishing now! I had to argue with him to go surfing the other weekend, he wanted to fish,  :smt005 . Good work Brendan!

For me, the family likes to sleep in til at least 9 or 10, so a typical day trip has me home a little after breakfast and they don't miss me much.  The WAF does go down if I sleep all afternoon then...
