Soooooo, couple months ago, I'm backing out of the driveway with my rods in the car. didn't notice one of em was poking into the steering wheel and SNAP! Busted the top 8" or so, from the first rod guide to the tip.
Anyways, since salt season's winding down and sweet water is revving up I figure nows a good time as any to do the rod repair.
Options:
1. cutting the second guide away and gluing on a new tip guide. Rod is 8" shorter.
2. insert tiny dowel to bridge the two broken pieces, then mend with plastic cement
3. ???

-Remove the first guide.
-Make an internal shim from rod blank material to fit perfectly into the broken section that provides at least two inches of overlap on each side of the break.
-Epoxy the shim in place
-Wrap over the break at least 1/2 inch on each side and apply finish.
- Re-install the guide that was removed, wrap and finish.
I've done repairs like this on my own rods. If done right it will be plenty durable, but your rod will never have quite the same action in the tip again... but it will be close. If the break were much farther back, I'd say it's not repairable, but this close to the tip is OK to repair.
By just making the rod 8 inches shorter and installing a new tip where the break is will result in a rod with dramatically different action.

I agree. Your other option is to remove all guides and rewrap based upon the action from the shorter rod.

Where do i get ~2" of blank material? we're talking less than a 1mm in diameter.

cut it from the tip of the rod you broke...oh wait.
