Don't want to be a debbie downer, but if the target is *any* tuna, why not launch from SD and heads towards the donkey show (mexico, a little too early for wfo in US waters)?

Fish Talk / Re: Pacific halibut in the Monterey Bay?
« on: May 27, 2023, 11:37:00 AM »
The shape of his Halibut looks like a California Halibut. Pacific Halibuts have a diamond shape body.  Maybe I am wrong judging from the picture.

It is hard to tell from the picture, but if when I zoom in, I see the diamond shape of the body, excluding the fins. Also, I don't think that's a mistake that the Bayside dude would make...

Yeah, it's a bad picture and if you look at it closely, it's slightly angled. Bayside usually will do the "the glass is half full"/high liner reports, but I doubt that they would make that big of a mistake.

Deep water RF is along the canyon edges - 300'+ and even 900+ if you could stay in the same spot before it becomes 800.

What would be an acceptable way to own up to and make amends after making a mistake like this?

Someone has to have a cached/downloaded version of the original video. Along with his subsequent videos and comments should be sufficient for a fine from DFW.

It would be different if he owned up to it, but he keeps doubling down and trying to find strange reasons to justify it. Only way to learn for some is to show up in court until it really hurts.

Don't mean go off topic, but a honda 2.3 weighs only ~30lbs. I used that for 7 years with no issues - a bit noisier but you can rinse it since it's air cooled (vs using muffs).

Free Willie

Not sure if this software supports it, but can we enable likes (and lols, smilies)?

There was another post on CS with someone proudly showing off their coho.  :smt005

If you find the right connector, you could use a manual bilge pump connected to a needle for the pressure bleed.

I cut the gills on both sides and poke the membrane near the gills. Toss them in the ocean for about 15 minutes and most the blood is out. The bucket method only gets so much out  also, if it's a big fish, hold onto the game clip for a minute or they might be still strong enough to unclip it

Just curious, besides those those who get 100k+ views consistently, how much $$ is involved.

My work supports my addiction and just wanna know if I should start posting videos about basic shit.

Hope he learns from this by paying a fine -- all the evidence is there for DFG/W.

Seems like he was seeking likeys and subscribies and had numerous times to catch his mistake - especially during video editing. Then to create another video to claim a limit on the same fish is just as funny as showing us the gums and letting us know what to look for in a "shinook".

... pajaro fingers so if the salmon are close, you can try to target both (still a big day!).

Just curious - I've just known it as pajaro and wonder if it's always been pajaro fingers or just a recent thing?

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Adventure Island

Unless you have an emotional attachment to the current adventure, I'd purchase a used late 2011+ one (the early 2011 models did not have the shark fin rudder and I think 2011 was the year that the aka joints changed).

what's the budget?
We are four friends so budget is flexible ;)

How close of friends are you and have you talked about the terms of how costs are shared?

I go solo most of the time, but if I were to charge the normal fees for gas for each trip, I'd still be in the deep red. There are towing fees, maintenance and upgrade costs too. Just to give you an idea, a typical season can be thought of as an AI and if I went really hard, it'd be the cost of 2 AIs (don't keep track of the total spending so that might be on the conservative side).

Not to be a downer but you're underestimating the power of a 2.x hp gas motor.

The Akas on the islands pivot to absorb the ocean conditions and it's not as simple as moving a kayak forward in FAC conditions.

And yes, my AI is motorized and one of the first ones after Rudy's conversion... putting in a guesstimate of over 5k+ hours.

If you can't tell the difference between a copper and a brown, put down the jack and switch to beers or hop aboard a guided party boat and let them do the counting

This sucks. Don't RF much, but at deep reef the larger ones are either reds or coppers. The starries should have their own sub-limit of 10 - little effers are everywhere
