Title: First kayak!
Post by: Kiriesh on May 31, 2016, 09:53:02 AM
Hey guys, figured I'd share. Picked up an older (I believe 08) tarpon 120 off Craigslist about a month back now. Took it out for the second time this weekend, and first time paddling it in salt water. It may not be much, but for a college student on a budget its amazing to me. (No pictures on the water, gopro had a misformated SD card I forgot to check until I was already out on the water...). I can already see my paychecks going out before they come in with this new hobby...

Right on. Make sure to check all the safety information on here, and bring the necessary gear and dress for immersion. The salt can be unforgiving!

This ^^^.....also congrats !!!  be safe ,have fun  :smt006

Thanks guys. I got the basics (PFD, water, whistle, buddy, wetsuit) but quickly discovering what I'm lacking. I think next purchase will include a saltwater knife (I only need to make the mistake of taking my decent spare folding once into salt water to learn that lesson) and a VHF wouldn't hurt.

VHF is a necessity, IMHO...

It's on my shortlist, but my SO's father who I went out with and plan on going out with (he has the mango malibu kayaks x-factor) has one so we aren't completely without.
