Water level is up at Folsom lake to the point where you can put in at the raft take out. On the water at 8 and back to the ramp at 11. Quick trip as I had issues and the wind didn't like me

Water temp was 63 in the lake and 61 under the bridge. Caught 3 fish, one bass and 2 squaw. All caught on small crankbaits and were just upriver from the 5mph buoys. Tried the flooded brush by the ramp and nothing.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Rollins Lake closed
« on: January 12, 2022, 08:26:30 AM »
With Rollins lake full I wanted to do some sonar making and a little fishing. All four launch points are closed. Of someone finds out reopened please post.
Thanks

Just like California. Lake is full so you can't use it and they are lowering Folsom

For Sale / NEW-Lews custom speed stick Lite, LCLBJR $100
« on: November 26, 2021, 04:56:14 PM »
$100 Location: Georgetown, CA

Selling a new Lews custom speed stick Lite, LCLBJR casting rod. Says it's for bladed jigs and square bill.  Took it out of packing for pictures and that's it.

Over a year ago I bought two of these at a store closing sale. For me they are too flexible for a bladed jig. I now use mine as a crankbait rod for things like Spro rock crawlers. The second one has been sitting in packing tube never used.
If someone is interested I can bring mine too a local lake so they can try it.

PS: No, I will not bring it to the bay area

Thinking of Rancho Seco, Lodi lake, or Delta as this spring heats up.  I'm up east of Folsom and don't get down hill but a couple times a year.  Want to fish more places on delta this year. Never tried Lodi and looks healthy, but not sure if there is a launch area now.  Rancho is closest and nice, but tough bite each time i've gone.

Mostly fish during the week to stay away from crowds.  Less traffic in the mornings on weekends is a plus.

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Month long tournaments?
« on: September 06, 2020, 08:39:16 PM »
There use to be month long fishing tournaments online or in an app but can't remember.  Are these still done?

Haven't been to the delta this year and am thinking of late this week.  Thursday or Friday most likely but maybe the weekend if winds are better.  I've only been on the east delta twice with a slow day and a skunk.  Drive is 2+ hours for me so hoping for better this time.  Hope there is someone with better experience that would let an amateur tag along.

Wind, tide, boat traffic, and finding a good launch spot will be big hurtles.

It's this Friday fishing done right or wrong?

Launched from Wimpy's Marina at 7:30 and back at 12:30.  Fished the channel over to Giusti's Place and back.  Didn't catch anything on the way over and got first fish half way back.

Started with top water and got a couple small strikes but no hook ups. Switched to a dark bladed jig deep and got no action.  Tried a silver spinner bait and again nothing.  Tossing a baby brush hog under trees got more small strikes.  Went to a soft jerk bait on a weight hook.  Got a backlash and when i cleared and started to reel there was a fish on, but it popped off since I didn't set hook.  Stared working it along the bottom in 10' of water and got first fish, 14".  Water level was dropping so tried a swimbait with no results.  Went to a square bill in Citrus Shad and got my PB spot at 18".  Fished the square bill around the dock and got a 12" and two dinks.

When I got to Giusti's I found that I had been fallowing an electrofishing boat. Is this even legal in California?

Wondering if anyone would be interested in getting together for some full moon night fishing this summer?

Would need to be someplace we don't have to worry about getting run over by boats.  Something with camp sites next to water would be good.  I know a small 25 acre lake and campground that I like to fish but have to see about permission to night fish.

Not going to make it this weekend so decided to go today. Forecast called for cloudy but is was bright blue sky.  Launched a greenhorn.  Water is still very brown with about 1 foot visibility.  Average water temp was 64 deg for most of the lake. The inflow being 54 deg and the highest I found was back in a shallow cove and was 68 deg.

Tried top water in the morning and got no action.  Tried a whopper plopper 90, walking baits, and a popper.  There almost no surface action all day even with lots of bugs on the surface.Caught 3 keepers at the Peninsula boat launch with a weightless wacky worm.  Dark colors with glitter/flake was the key and casting into the shade under dock/bushes.  While casting shallow I was getting short strikes and got tails bit off.  I think fish are in spawn mode but water too dirty to see. No hits on any moving baits. Tried bladed jig, crankbaits, jerkbaits, lipless, spinner baits.

While paddling around my FF showed fish holding in 12-18 ft and bait balls showed just above that.

General Fishing Tips / How do you keeping fish on a kayak?
« on: March 21, 2018, 03:23:55 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone has good idea/method for keeping fish on a kayak.  Do you all just use a stringer over the side or some kind of floating tank?

I don't plan on going salt water so no worry about sharks. Striper, crappie, catfish will be 99%.

Introductions / Back in Sierra Foothills and new to Kayak Fishing
« on: December 04, 2017, 10:15:31 PM »
I moved back to the foothills above Folsom last year and got into kayak fishing this year.  I have a Wilderness Systems Ride 115x that I have spent the year outfitting and learning on.  I plan to only stay on fresh water and try to stay clear of all the crazy boaters.

Over the year I have been trying to expand my fishing by going after more types. My plan is to catch a fish each month of 2017. This year I caught my first Smallmouth and Spotted Bass, as well as first crappie, carp, and rainbow trout.  Have tried to get a striper but come up empty each time.

Next year I hope to get to some tournaments to see setups and maybe not get skunked.
