“Requires little maintenance”. Has it been salt water before? If so, has it been serviced?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Tarpon 140 with a Downrigger
« on: September 17, 2018, 02:16:47 PM »
Hey all,

I have been chatting with RacinRob a little bit about the DR placement on my Tarpon 140 but wanted to open the conversation up to everyone to get some more ideas and feedback. The model is a 2007 and does not have gear tracks. I am currently looking to install the DR on the right side near back rod holder. My concern and RacinRob is that where the rod holder is placed will effect the paddle stroke with the blow back from the fishing line when coming unclipped. I was also considering placing the DR in front of the scotty rod holder, but would that be a difficult place to retrieve the DR line while fighting a fish? Thoughts? All feedback would much appreciated. Thank you!

Sweet! Ill look into getting the down rigger installed. That should work well with the scotty rod holder that is already installed in the center console. I don't think it will affect the paddle stroke since the rod tip would be off the right side?

With a Tarpon 140 you will probably have to make an effort to keep from going faster than 2mph. I've never used leadcore, but I would think the slower you go the deeper it will go. Faster speed pushes harder on the lure and line making it rise up higher as the angles increases. There are also big mackinaw to fish for there. Before you spend money, check into getting a Scotty Lake Troller. I assume your Tarpon has a slide trax, that's how I mounted mine.

Oh ok. No I do not have the side tracks. My Tarpon 140 is a 2007 I believe and I need to measure the dimensions to see if its possible to even add a down rigger.

General Fishing Tips / UVR trolling/leadcore
« on: September 16, 2018, 10:33:03 AM »
Hey all,

I have been wanting to go up to UVR for some time now since it is only 90 minutes from my location. Since UVR is relatively close I would like to start getting some experience fishing up there. Just in case the trout aren't running deep for jigging I was considering the lead core set up for trolling since I do not have a down-rigger. I will be using a tarpon 140, if I am actively paddling will I be going fast enough for my lure to reach depth? I was reading that the trolling speed needs to be around 2mph. If lead core is not the way to go, what would be another option to troll at depth without a down-rigger? What are some good recommendations for lures to use while trolling? Any and all feedback will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hey these look really great! I really like the design. I have question and it might sound dumb, but are they only compatible with the Lawrence Elite 5? I was just recently gifted a Tarpon 140 and some accessories to go with. The first thing I would like to do is get a FF attached. I currently use a Humminbird 343c on a prowler 13 and was hoping to just switch it over if possible. Thanks.

CA Regulations / Re: 2018 Sac River Salmon Regs
« on: July 08, 2018, 07:11:20 PM »
They posted the valley regs the same day with the ocean regs.

The traditional July 16th opener remains just the daily limit will be 1 and total possession of 2. Already fish moving thru the Sac and Moke rivers.

Cool thanks.

Is there a link somewhere to the new regulation for the Sac River? I've only been able to find the ocean Salmon regulations this year. Thanks.

Very cool. I saw this last year. Not willing to spend the $1500+ for a transducer though  :smt005. I could buy a new(er) kayak with that amount instead.

I called the moment I was the ad. I wasn't surprised that they had sold already. Less than 15 hours on CL lol. Do deals like this happen quite a bit? I've seen deals for one fully rigged yak, but two for one?
