Bonjore!!!   :smt006

Just flew back from France and boy are my arms tired.....  :smt003

Checked my hundreds of e-mails, HOW is taking off and just received a e-mail from the Warrior Transition Unit in Sacramento...

They, are holding an event May 6th at Lake Mildred, I don't know much right now, but what I have found out is this is a private small lake pay for access etc..etc.. just slightly northeast of Woodland...

They are going to have around 50 to 60 active duty wounded warriors....

they are planning for a day at the lake with kayaking/canoeing, fishing, horseshoes etc...etc.. and the WTU would love it if we could make a appearance and help out with our expertise...

we don't have to take care of food, as a matter of fact, I guess they are telling the soldiers to bring a few bucks and they can buy something at the snack bar... anyway...
we just need to bring our gear, a few extra yaks if ya can, I guess they have some yaks for rent there which they are " discounting " to the vets... I think some of the access, fishing permits fees etc are being waived but not all...

I'll find out more but just want to get this out there as time is short and we will do what we can... they realize it's short notice, but if we could pull off anything, that would be awesome and the Troops would Love it!!!

 I know I'm going with 4 Hobies and 20 something fishing poles... I think it's mainly a bass/bluegill lake...

I can say this, I have been to a few get to-gethers when these special people converge and it's a Special Honor to be in their presence...

and a little intimidating....

I'll get out more as soon as I know more...

There is also Lake Minden which is off 99 near Nicolaus. Near Feather an 99. Maybe that is what you are thinking. They say they have kayak rentals there, and nothing about that at Mildred.

Thanks to everyone  who wants to help with this last second event....

I just talked to the person in charge, Sonya...

they are waiving the entrance fee, and the usual $10 fishing permit is going to be $5...

They are taking care of the lunch, but I'm sure it will be a few bucks for a hotdog and coke...

again, this is all on them, we just have to pony up $5 to fish,...  I guess they stock with catfish, so that will be the target of the day with worms, they do sell that there at the lake,  anchovies, whatever ya catch catfish on,,, bass and crappy too...

Don't put yourselves out getting gear and yaks... just bring whatever your comfortable with.

The troops are not expecting or know where coming, so there are no expectations....

I will bring the HOW rod cash which is over 20 set ups....

I'm sure the vets that want to fish are bringing their own gear anyway...

there will be yaks for rent at the lake for $3 hour.....

so, we will just do what we can and it will be enough....

I expect we will be very busy, if not just answering questions about kayakfishing to actually getting them out on the water.....

They are going to get there around 9... if ya get there, and I'm not there yet, just say your with Heroes on the Water and My Name " Don Anglin... " and ya should only have to pay $5 for the permit....

(Maybe leave my name out, might cost ya more....  :smt002)

  Thanks Aagin!!!     :smt006

Went by there today on the way home. They let me take a look around. The lake is small. Looks like it could be fishy though. Very cloudy water. 6" vis maybe. This weekend they are having some boat races, so I figure the clarity will not get any better. There food pricing is reasonable, but i suggest we do a mini food deal for us. I only saw 2 kayaks behind there store and about 5 canoes. My guess is that we will be supplying the fishing craft. My guess on bait is noisy lures or very scented ones. Bait for cats may work as well. They sell some bait there. Pretty steep drop to the water from most places around the lake. A few areas that getting people on yaks will be possible.

One more thing. I'd say the water color was like glacial runoff.

Thanks for checking that out Rob....

surprised about the kayak situation... I will give another call...  I think they are prepping up something food wise... probably bq hotdogs or something, but your right in that we should bring something for ourselves. I'll find out more about that too...

thanks again for swinging by there...
