New to kayaking and NCKA but love fishing.  So I made up my mind to get a kayak to go fishing but my kids had a bad experience on a rental so they were not excited.  For stability, i thought what could be better than an AI.  These things are bulletproof (at least in a swimming pool.)  Proof is in the video.

Apparently the hobie dealer in Santa Rosa (Wind Toys) is telling everyone that buys AI's that they have to register.  I bought this from a lady who bought it from them.  Searching the web for california regulations seems to imply that if it is wind powered that it needs to be registered and that some people were getting tickets in california.  Is this not the case?  Michael

From the CA DMV:  What Vessels Must be Registered?

Generally, every sail-powered vessel over eight feet in length and every motor-driven vessel (regardless of length) that is not documented by the U.S. Coast Guard which is used or on the waters of this state are subject to registration by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

That would include, not only AI's, but when using the sail kit, Outbacks, Revos, Sports.

Correct.  Wind Toys told me the same "must register" when I looked at buying an AI from them back in '12

Oh, guess I was thinking it was a kayak but put a sail on it and it's a sailboat.

Nice sail yak!

Anybody know of an AI (or similar) actually getting ticketed?
