OK, I dont want to sound like a freak, but this turny has got me FIRED up. I set up a downrigger, a cannon sport, on my yak, tested it, and its completely out of my paddeling way, works like a charm, and wanna know what lures work there. I know about the live bait, but do rattletraps and spoons work as well? The biggest (20 lbs or so) striper I caught was on a 4 inch blue and silver rattletrap.  Live bait 1st, then option #2.

Thanx for the tips!  The downrigger I mounted on thin plywood, behind the seat, on a swivel deal that swings back and out of the way, still reachable. Its pretty cool. The ply has lots of clear alcohol sealer for the elements. The ply also is straped to the yak for easy removal. Cant wait to use it on a fish.

I'd love to see pictures of your downrigger set up.  Where do you place your rod relative to the downrigger, behind you as well?

One other tip, keep your eye on Mooch or you may end up with a banana on your yak, oh and rockhopper too, can't trust those 2  :smt003

I was completely INNOCENT :smt059 at last years mendo derby  :smt045  It was Chris / Cpyak and Dustin / rockhopper planting bananas (I finally got a confession from both of 'em - a year later :smt011) EVERYONE was blaming me  :smt009....rightfully so, but I was definitely well-behaved during this derby....for once   :smt001

Message to Dustin and Chris: keep an eye on your bait buckets......you may just wake -up and find all your minnows "floating"  :smt077
