I voted Rapala for the Shad Rap
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Little Cleao and Kastmasters are my two favorite, with one exception. In small mountain streams a size zero Mepps with a black blade with yellow spots is MONEY.

1 = Rapala Shad rap (for trolling)
2 = kast master (for casting)
3 = little cleo (casting and trolling)
4 = rooster tail / yellow coach dog (casting - stream fishing)

Thanks, fellas.

This is much appreciated. I'm gonna start hittin' the crummy little lakes around here for some after work trout action soon.

I'll let you know if any of these work around here.

Since we're on the subject - anyone wanna let me in on some techniques for catching these little critters?

How deep to fish, how fast to retrieve, etc.

Grazie!

My summer trout gear consists of Mepps...Mepps...Mepps.. Oh and a flatfish or quickfish for the deep holes.

I use kastmasters mostly and little cleo's 1\8th oz medium fast retrive keeping it near the bottom in shallow water seems to work best for me it takes a little practice and there is no excact method

For lower elevation lakes with shad a cop car needle fish. For higher elevation and small streams a gold phoebe.

what lakes Dustin? Spring and Ralphine?
If so all you need is a salmon egg on the bottom.
If there is another lake close by with trout let me know.

Yup, those two lakes, Matt. Mostly Ralphine since that's the only one getting stocked this year.

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately I don't think it's going to stop raining.  :smt010

On the rubicon (jeep trail) at rubicon springs,  1/8oz roostertail in white. Loch lomond (Santa cruz Mtn's) it has been 1/4oz roostertail yellow.  Each season (with clear water) the yellow has produced for me, when nothing elws seemed to work.

Had a roostertail that worked great for me here; also an eppinger 3'16 perch spoon that gets limits at blue lake.
Funny thing, walking the rooster tail here at Dorris res pier and watching trout run to the lure. The perch spoon is use differently and at the pier at blue lake in early spring; I use it over the weeds, and stop when the weeds grow higher and the fish move to the edge of the 60' hole.

Anybody ever see large trout just float on top, and just use their mouths to gulp floating flies?
