Found this quiz as well on the reef.org site. This time it's for fish of the Pacific Northwest which seems to be a better match for NorCal.
Enjoy...

10/15 for me, I had never heard of a warbonnet before. Still missed those darn perch as well!!
-
But keep taking it. Eventually you will get a set you can ID 100%......... :smt004

Another 12.....at least I'm not getting any worse :smt001

The black rockfish is unfair, in the photo the eye looks to be well behind the end of the mouth... :smt013 The B&Y rockfish looks much like a china in that photo, I had to look at it for a while to decide that the nike swoosh wasn't good enough to qualify it to be a china. Most B&Y have more random markings.
That site is more for scuba folk than fisher folk. They could've really screwed us on the flatflish other than halibut and starry flounder as well as the warbonnets, wrasses and kelpfish. ;)

I agree. That black's mouth is not behind the eye................ :smt013

 47% 7 out of 15 time to hit the books.

I had to check the dorsal on the black, only way I wa able tell the difference.
I think this one was unfair

I had never seen a white spotted greenling before. It's not listed on Love's site but here is another picture I found.
