This SoCal guy is gonna be up in Humboldt next week with three fishable days ... Tue/Wed/Thurs   (8-2, 8-3, and 8-4).     :smt001

I tentatively want to head to Trinidad on Tuesday 8/2 for rockfish.  Heard they were mooching for salmon too ... would love to hook up with anyone.   I have not made specific plans at all but I plan to fish all three days.

I'm bringing my little Hobie Sport.  I guess I'm no longer a newbie -- but I had the hobie up here a year ago when I was a brand newbie!   Caught some blacks there in Trinidad.  Had my hobie in Freshwater Lagoon in Jan.

This may be my last time up for a while, my daughter is moving to Oakland shortly after this visit so I loose my local connection. So I gotta fish like there's no tomorrow!!!

@ hamachijohn -- will definitely do that.  I'll have daughters all over the bay area -- "Oaktown" San Jose, and Berkley ... I guess I will do some urban fishing up there.  btw -- I've been fishing Cabrillo often down here, but nothing exciting to report.  Mostly short fish .. halibut and barred sand bass last few trips (oh and lots of lizards).  Went Fri and Sun.  All short fish.  I figured we don't need pix of those.   :smt005

Dave, it's a bummer to hear that your daughter is moving away from Humboldt Co. At least all your daughters will be closer to each other. I hope that you will find some members here that have the opportunity to join ya for some fishing, as I had lotsa fun fishing with ya last time at Santa Cruz :D

Hope you have an enjoyable time up north!  :smt006

Hey Daniel --   I'm taking the bait tube NORTH with me ...  :smt001    THANKS SO MUCH, I really value that and your generosity.  With all my kids in the Bay area, odds are I will have the kayak up near San Jose more often.  Maybe we can hook up again in your neck of the woods ...   I think we're gonna try to retire up near Eureka/Arcata but that is still a few years away.  -- My kayak and fishing gear is loaded  -- headed North tomorrow afternoon.

I'm looking forward to fishing with you again in the near future! I hope that you do get to do some fishing while you're up here. I'm actually leaving to LA later this evening for business, and I should be back up Tuesday evening. I hoping to get all my work done so that I can participate in the MBK tourney this Saturday. If you're still up here still it'd be cool to fish with you then! :D

Anyways, I hope that we hookup again this summer! Have fun with you daughters while you're up here :)

I live in Eureka.  I was planning on some yak fishing tomorrow morning.  Im not sure where yet.  Either bay halibut or troll out near the whistler for salmon and rockfish by the jetties.

I was in vacation recovery mode today and it was tough to miss this morning's flat water and minus tide...  Anyway, I'm about  to call Dave to get today's report, and Trinidad is sounding inviting with how the salmon bite sounded pretty slow yesterday out of Eureka.  We could head north early, monitor the bite on the radio, consider a quick dive, and head outside to drift back south in over 100' of water for chances at halibut and salmon.  Rockfish and lings should come on the fringes of that day.   :smt001

Dave was still OTW when I got him on the phone - WTG on a good day, Dave!

Anyway, we're meeting at 6AM at Trinidad to go searching for fishies - hopefully silvery ones or flat ones.   :smt001

Just finished cleaning up from cooking today's catch.  (I cook and clean up!) .. will post pix shortly ... have gear and hobie rinsed and re-loaded on the car for an early getaway tomorrow.  Will see you in the AM at Trinidad.

Will post pix shortly from today -- tourist style.

@phatdawg - yup -- posted em here - http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,32685.msg347948.html#msg347948

That was the Tuesday BEFORE the "epic" trip with Eric the next day.   :smt044   I was not out for very long and fished only as far out as prisoner rock.  I must say, as I sit here WORKING in SoCal this week -- I really miss fishing in Humboldt county.  Getting back from vacation is such a **tch.   :smt009

I'm flying up to Sacramento tomorrow, up and back in the same day.  (ugh) Will look at the river, longingly upon approach and departure.  Will be back in the bay area the very next week but no time to fish.   :smt010
