Okay guys and gals here is a sneak peek into the latest kayak from Malibu Kayaks.  This is totally hot off the press and they have not sent me any literature or specs yet so all I have is this picture.

As you can tell it has a really nice deck layout and some interesting hatches that are easily accessible right in front of you.  It also appears to have the same style wet well in the bow as the X-13 which is a great place to stash you catch.  The hatch cover uses the innovative low profile gator hatch that has an integrated small child seat and allows for 2 more flush rod holders.  The seat area is also a decent mounting location for various devices.  It has the slanted rear hatch like the X-Factor and recesses for a 5 gallon bucket, crate, or cooler.  It also features side mount carry handles, paddle keepers, a drink holder, and flush mount rod holders.  We don't yet know what the standard version will come with, but based on their other models what you see in this picture is characteristic of the Fish and Dive model, but with the addition of the rudder.

I'm not sure when it is available, but it sounds like to me that it will be ready for Spring 2009 and of course Outback Adventures will be stocking it at both of our stores in the Bay Area.

UPDATE - I just saw this older post I made and noticed the error in the title.  The kayak ended up being called the Stealth 14, not the X-14.  The post was made prior to the kayak's release.  Due to the error I modified the title to say Stealth 14 rather than X-14.

I want it! :smt007 Assuming the Apex 1 seat is to scale, it looks a bit wider than the x-13. Also what is the layout of the interior access between the legs? Is there a main deck plate and two smaller hatches below the thigh area? Looks like the future of Malibu is going in the right direction!

I was thinking the exact opposite...that is a rehatched X-Factor...which is fine...but those hatches are stoOOOOopid.

those little side hatches seem bizarre to me...can't wait to hear how/if they actually work

it looks like a pretty good boat to me, definitely made in mind towards fishermen!

wonder how well they paddle at 33" though..and they look heavy!

Spent time on one recently. The hull is pure X-factor, mostly unchanged. The new hatch configuration works very well - the round one in the center is designed to be converted into a livewell. Of the two hatches that flank it, one is open to the hull, the other covers a recessed storage area. Then again, that rear rectangle seems unnecessary. The deck is the best part of this boat, just as innovative as the Trident 15's.
