I spent the past several days staring at the X-13 - it was in our Hall Show booth. The Kayak Fishing Assoc of CA is raffling one off thanks to the generosity of OEX Kayak Centers and Malibu Kayaks.

This baby has nice lines. I think it'll be a sweet paddling boat, but of course I won't have a meaningful opinion until I log some seat time. The cockpit layout looks good; the new 'gator lite' hatch will be standard on all of the big-hatch Malibus. That's an excellent added value.

The X-13s most intriguing feature is the bow well. Lift the hatch, you get a compartment drained by a single scupper. An indent on the cockpit-side bulkhead accommodates a small round hatch. Malibu positions the front well as a fish hold. Of course the scupper can be plugged; internal rod storage should be possible for those who cut through the bulkhead.

I'm reserving judgment until I have the opportunity to use the bow well. Because there's a medium-sized rectangular hatch in the cockpit, storage capacity is still adequate to good.

The two boats at the Show are prototypes. The basic boat will come with a pair of flushmounts behind the seat and the two hatches.

Thanks for the detailed pics PAL. You da man! :thumright:

The lines of the hull looks really new for Malibu and especially Prowler-ish in the bow and keel. Looks like a good paddler from here. The front hatch is interesting. I'd like to hear what it's all about. If it's for storing fish, the black lid will probably heat the well up quite a bit.

One bummer I do see is that w/ the new hatch that sweet mounting place for the FF is gone.  :smt085 The closing mechanism blocks it.

Not really, that rear hatch would give you access to the stern from the inside so you could do a thru bolt.  Since these are protos they may add them later.

Good looking little boat.

I can just tell from the lines that an X13 would be good paddling yak.  I'm sure a test paddle would prove it.

That front tankwell covered by a hatch sort of reminds me of my REI Marlin.

Says it's 13' 10" long, 29" wide and 58#'s.

The shape of the hull and specs are similar to the Ocean Kayak P13.  I bet it paddles similar.
