I've never used a downrigger on a kayak. Looking for recommendations and feedback on the best set-up for a Hobie Revo or Outback. Thanks

General Talk / California "Real ID" Act 2018
« on: June 05, 2018, 09:19:21 AM »
Hey everyone, not sure how many of you are aware of this, but if you do not take the proper steps to renew your license in our glorious state or renew by mail, you will be slapped with a "non compliant" with a "Federal Limits Apply" stamp in the upper right corner of your license. If you have this designation, you will not be permitted to purchase ammo, a firearm, or be allowed to board a plane. I know someone that recently experienced this, and they were completely unaware until it was pointed out that they had a non-compliant license. Spread the word!! It will take $30.00 and a visit in person with all the required documentation to get the "real ID. Thanks Jerry Brown....

Fishing Tournaments and Events / GS12 Side Bet-Biggest RF or Cabbie
« on: May 12, 2018, 02:12:37 PM »
I'm posting this on behalf of the infamous side-bet-king David Klein- aka Tigerfish. Dave's having technical difficulties, and has asked me to get things rolling. Believe it or not, this will actually be his first GS event. For those of you who may not have been in on the action at other events, you should know that Dave's, well, pretty determined and enthusiastic about getting the pot as high as possible. There have been a few events that have seen the side bet exceed 1,000!! We will be camping out on Jim Goz's RV site, and Dave will also be hard at work making the rounds in camp to collect $10 bucks each for the biggest rockfish or cabbie on game day. See you there!

Hey all,
A good friend of mine Trevor Maroshek is the founder of the Seal Dog Foundation. He is a true hero and dedicated to placing veterans with much-needed service dogs. They are supporting an upcoming music and beer tasting event, Sabroso at Cal Expo on Sunday, April 8. All you have to do is volunteer four hours of your service at one of the many craft beer booths and you will receive free lunch, beer vouchers, and entrance to the music event. They are in need of at least 30-40 volunteers. Just go to the link below and click the Sabrosa volunteer tab in the upper right corner and fill out the short application. Please indicate that Mike Sapp referred you. This is going to be a good time, and I hope to see as many of you as possible come out to support this great organization!

Decided to go out for a quick fish Sunday morning. While cleaning a fat vermilion, I noticed a game clip hanging one one of the hooks. This is definitely a kayak fisherman's game clip and has one distinct feature that you will need to identify to claim it. Didn't want to chance leaving it there, and hope it belongs to someone in the group. -M

General Talk / Fuse Replacement Sunglass Lenses
« on: July 14, 2017, 02:04:07 PM »
Hey Everyone,
If you're like me and have old frames with broken lenses, or perfectly good frames with scratched lenses laying around in a drawer, or have a brand that does not offer replacement lenses like Kaenon, then check this out. They have many of the top brands, and are also on Ebay.

http://www.fuselenses.com/

I recently purchased their G15 polarized lenses for one of my Kaenon's, super nice on the water and land. I also purchased the Fuse+Plus sapphire mirrored for another pair. I couldn't be happier with this purchase, and speedy delivery. All of their lenses are polycarbonate, come with a nice storage sack for your glasses, and are really nice. For the price, you really can't go wrong with resurrecting that old pair of your favorite sunglasses. Cheers

Hobie Kayaks / Revo 13 vs Outback?
« on: June 29, 2017, 02:38:43 PM »
I've had my Revo 13 for about 4 years now and really like it, but it does not come without its challenges. I have long been critical of the Revo's cockpit and rounded bow hatch design-(everything slides off of it). I have been considering moving into an outback for a while, but have yet to take advantage of the many opportunities to try one. I have really come too appreciate the well thought out design of the Outback's cockpit, concave bow hatch, and storage options. It just seems like a very functional fishing kayak. I guess my only hangup is the additional weight (almost 20#), almost 4" of girth, and shorter overall length. All of these factors would seem to effect speed and efficiency over distance, but also provide more stability and comfort. Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks Mike
