Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: week at tb

I'm assuming the stripers grabbed a bait you got on the sabiki and not on the actual sabiki flies.

"can't keep the rockies" wow does that go for salmon and pac hali too? If you can't keep anything in the sound, that would be a bummer.

Very kool video. Thanks for that. Good for finding potential spots when she's filled back up. I noticed some good rock piles etc. We can't take another dry winter tho...

Nice to know there are some around up there.

After a few boat side heartaches I use a gaff on the large ones now. Far less problems with a gaff. Nice going.

If you're interested in Lake camping/fishing.  Either Caples Lake (Hwy 88)  or Loon Lake (Hwy 50) would work.  For caples just need to make sure you stay on the National Forest side of the lake, and not the Wilderness (unless you have wilderness permit)  I think both are froze over right now though
Yep Caples is still covered in a blanket of snow. Just drove past it a couple days ago on our way back from the eastern sierra.

For Sale / Re: WTB lowrance transducer for elite 4
« on: November 22, 2019, 09:14:23 PM »
I plan to use it up front for vertical jigging which usually requires a narrower cone. The combo 85/200 degree is more what I'm looking for. But thanks for responding.

For Sale / WTB lowrance transducer for elite 4
« on: November 20, 2019, 11:32:03 AM »
I'm looking for an extra transducer for a Lowrance elite series. Mine is the elite 4 chirp but I'm sure any of them will work. Want to permanently strap one on a trolling motor. Thought I'd look here before buying a new one. Drop me a pm if you have one to unload.
Thanx

So what rod did you buy? Last year I dropped a few hundred on a Phoenix rod. It’s a beautiful acid wrapped rod that’s super light, and powerful but not as flexible as the Japanese style rods I see on YouTube vids. Not sure if it accomplishes the same action on the jigs. To be honest it doesn’t really work much differently than my trevala rods as far as working the jigs. Except for lighter more sensitive.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / sharks off pacifica
« on: August 13, 2019, 04:02:45 AM »
This was posted on coastside.

Filmed dozens of White sharks the past 4 days in HMB and Pacifica. At one point I counted 7 together in Rockaway beach in shallow water. See youtube link with a video of some of the shots.

Hmmm, don't know how to copy the u tube video but there are several big boys cruising near shore. Be careful out there.

Last minute opening to share a site with Jonesz. Due to a family emergency my wife will not be coming with me. We had a rv site with full hookups booked, (Ravensblack old site) and I was planning on bringing our RV. Now I'm just going to go in my sprinter van and camp simple. Called the camp host and she said I could split the camp site with another person if I want. I have A7 booked. She also said someone who needed a site with full hookups was asking about any cancelations and would be interested in trading sites, in which case I would find out the other site when I get there. If your looking for a site to share drop me a pm with your phone # and we can talk details.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Crawdad's for bait
« on: May 29, 2019, 10:20:50 AM »
Back when I was a younin' my dad used to send me out to catch bait. Kept me occupied for hours  :smt005 He sent me out with a coffee can. Get in some rocks that are easy to lift. Put the coffee can down in front of the rock and then lift the rock quickly with one hand. Lifting the rock towards the can. The dads will try to swim away and end up in the can. Every once in a while you get a soft shell thats just molted. Those never make it to the bottom when you cast em out  :smt002 Money!!! No better smallmouth bait.

General Fishing Tips / Re: kayak halibut on lures
« on: May 29, 2019, 10:01:17 AM »
Thanks for the details Steve. Success is usually in the details... I've picked some up over the years on, rattle traps (fishing for stripers) swimsuits, jigging irons and jigs tipped with twin tail scampis. White and chartreuse are hard to beat.

I'm digging that pac hali pic  One of these dayz I'm gonna get one of those... Like everyone else, still waiting on a window to hit the pink down here.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: White River, AR
« on: February 13, 2019, 07:16:27 PM »
last year we traveled across the states and we stopped on the White for a couple days. It is quite an amazing fishery. Very fertile. Tons of fish per mile there. When we firsts got there they were running one generator. then mid morning cranked up several more. Watched the river go from a modest stream to a huge river in a few minutes! If you were on the other side wading you wold be screwed if you didn't get back over!. They said they blow a horn before opening it up, but this time they didn't, so it just started growing before your eyes. Depending on the flow the trout relocate according to the flows. I caught several nice ones on flies and then I tried the marabou jigs they use and got some on those too. Broke off a toad too. Wish we had a little more time to explore it, but had to keep moving.
