So I did a little research and while I assume painting these babies is hit and miss I had to try. I woke up with a name and paint scheme in mind and had to do it. Sanded, rubbed with acetone, 3 coats of black, rattle can letters (eh...)

Any experience?

I assume the bottoms doomed but that ain't the point!

I'll follow up with wear and tear if anyone's interested

Think you meant acetone not acetylene for paint prep. Paint should hold up OK even though it is a thin sprayed layer.

3 coats thin?

What's thick? :smt010

Aerosol paint has to be thin to be able to shoot out of the nozzle openings. Three coats is better than one but the surface thickness will be less than brushed oil or an  epoxy. A plus to the aerosol though is it probably penetrates the surface of the plastic a bit especially after being prepped with acetone. Should last for some time.

Looks pretty cool…might want to throw a few cans at that pickup while you're at it.

Haha.. I'm afraid spray paint won't cover the holes in the roof at this point... Let alone bondo

The only aerosol is the lettering. The black is oil (3 coats brushed). Easy fix if it chips tho... I'll just keep painting over it!u

other side. I've gotta say.. the reflective metallic stuff goes a LOOONG way if you are careful. a little pop covers almost an entire letter stencil. we'll see how it fairs to the environment.

will keep you updated.

Will do. My dad (Raydon) says he hasn't seen many people do this yet so as a field trial I'll try to keep note of how things go

If you find that it doesn't hold up you might try Plasti Dip next time.  It's more rubbery and should work a little better at adhering to the plastic.
