Stanford has a new study out that is a worthwhile read. If they are correct, far more people have had corona virus than was thought. Effectively making it less deadly, and more like the flu. If they are correct...

It’s funny how so many put so much “passion” and concern into current events with the idea of “saving lives” and “caring for the community” but I haven’t heard anything from them on diseases that actually kill lots of lives every year. The corona virus still has a very high survivability rate and those that are most susceptible are the ones at risk to many other disease processes. Heck, the common flu infects millions every year, kills thousands EVERY YEAR and no one bats an eye. Ebola has nearly a 50% death rate but you didn’t have the outcry you do now. Not to mention things like cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, etc. I get those aren’t contagious, but you all are so adamant about “saving lives” why haven’t you been out spoken on those topics? They kill far more people than corona virus ever will. Common sense and logic should tell you we’ve had this disease in our country for a lot longer than the media would lead you to believe. It is not spreading like wildfire like the media wants you to think. We just have a diagnosis and test for an upper respiratory infection that has been going around for months. Stop with all the doom and gloom.

So what's happening in NY right now is no big deal?

Do you know about how this event is overwhelming medical systems?

These are real questions.  I'm not belittling or mocking anyone.

I didn’t once say it wasn’t a big deal. Re-read my post if you have to. I’m aware medical systems are saturated, they already were prior to this virus, but that’s another story. Going fishing may not be essential, but that doesn’t mean a person does not care about others and it doesn’t mean they are spreading the virus.

You're downplaying it, which is more or less the same as saying it's not a big deal.
It may not be "spreading like wildfire, but that doesn't mean it's under control by any means. California is currently in good shape only because of SIP.
The common flu is 20 times less deadly than COVID-19.
Ebola infected 11 Americans from 2014-2016.

If you're infected and asymptomatic, and then you go fishing, you could very well be spreading it. That's what's scary. None of us know for sure whether or not we have.

Watch some real news and stop listening to the likes of Donald Trump and Rush Limbaugh.
And the opposite can be said for those saying going fishing is killing people. Where’s your source that covid 19 is 20 times more deadly than the flu? I like to compare numbers so honest question.

I personally am getting pretty sick and tired of those who think they can do whatever the hell they want with absolute disregard for the health and well being of others.

And I am personally getting tired of getting lumped into a class of people who have absolute disregard. Public health officials have outlined what you can and can’t do and in most places kayaking and recreational fishing is allowed and fine. But if it doesn’t suit someone’s personal preference that everybody stay inside his or her house other than to go to the Petri dish that is the grocery store, that person now feels emboldened to call out others publicly, in a hostile way, with all the subtlety of a 14”dildo. It’s obnoxious.
Agreed.

Yes, we already have all of those things stressing the fuck out of our health care system.

Do we really need to add thousands of more corona virus patients to already over-crowded hospitals?

Do you know what asymptomatic means and how long one can have the virus and be asymptomatic?

Since everyone wants to compare this to the flu, how many more deaths per year from the flu do you think there would be if you could be running around spreading the flu to people for 10 days or more without even knowing you have it?

And just like Eric mentioned, these are serious questions and I'm not trying to be a smart-ass.

It seems like there's way too many people "on both sides" of this that are just regurgitating things they read on the internet without giving any thought to it.

Like Eric you’re missing my point. With my profession I’m well aware of what asymptomatic means and have been well versed in what this virus does. If you’ve compared this to the flu, then you should be well aware of the numbers and how they compare to corona. Look at the past few years. I don’t watch the news, and quite frankly don’t believe a word they say. If the facts give me something to worry about I’ll change my ways, until then, I’ll keep on living my life as I see fit.
