Craftsmen's Corner / Island Hopper Elec. Motor
« on: August 19, 2021, 04:02:35 PM »
Anyone here ever replace the speed control / selector switch on an island hopper trolling motor? I am cheap and am working in wiring in a minn kota speed selector switch but... I think there is a better option (other than factor) upgrade I can do myself.
Any experiance out there?

Craftsmen's Corner / Shimano TLD 10 - Drag jerky jerky
« on: April 18, 2020, 08:53:58 PM »
So I asked a question previously regarding free spooling and got the answer now as I get ready to head out, and test the drag, the drag is very jerky.  Any thoughts recommendations or experiences with the rebuild / service.

FYI I was not able to rebuild the actual spool itself, I dis not have the tool to do dissemble.

Thanks

Craftsmen's Corner / Shimano TLD 10 - Free Spool Service
« on: April 07, 2020, 11:43:47 PM »
Hey all, also posted on another site but I'm having issue with my TLD 10. I did a service on it (first time for me on a used reel) and now when I shift from free spool to drag, I cant get it to drop back into free spool unless I push the drag adjustment knob in or push the spool in.  Kinda weird.  Any one have experiance working on this reel?

Hey people,
I'm looking for a recommendation on a good waterproof / laminated west coast rock fish ID card to keep on the yak.
Any thoughts and or recommendations on where I could get on?
Another option is printing and laminating (I do have access to a laminater.  Any thoughts on high resolution pics I download?
Or maybe some ones got one memorized and doesn't need theirs anymore..

Thanks

General Fishing Tips / Breaking up & Repackaging Frozen Baits
« on: April 16, 2019, 01:39:18 PM »
Hey all,  :smt006
I wanted to see if any one wanted to share their tips on breaking up or repackaging frozen baits. I thinking frozen squid, hearing, sardines any tray or block type frozen baits that are frozen together.  I findmyself either giving away or more often feeding the fish unused baits.  If I can pre package what I think I'm going to use for the day or days then I might save some money or at least have the bait hold up as little longer.  All that being said, what are the colective thoughts on salting said baits to keep stiffer or sented? And what baits would you salt?
I know I've met guys on the party boats for salmon that use glitter and such for their rigs.....

General Talk / Lowrance elite 4 repair question
« on: March 10, 2019, 09:54:40 PM »
What's happening?! :smt006
So... Ive got a used lowrance elite 4 fish finder I've used last season.  It came with my yak (used). I'm going into my second season this year.  I've had good times and bad times with the fish finder.  More good than bad but not by much.  Maybe you all can help me witha few questions.  Before I pony up and get a new one.

1) is it worth sending to lowrance and having them give it the once over and maybe refurbishing it.

2) I'm assuming it's the head and not the transducer. Not much to go wrong with it (transducer) right? I'd hate to dismount the transducer if not necessary.

3) has anyone had luck going this route?

4) what kind of turnaround you think I could expect form their support / repair dept?

5) if you were to replace and or upgrade what's a good option with similar features?

I've tested my unit off the water but cant mimic the problems and when I'm on the water it's to frustrating to work with it there.  This is I consider a crucial piece of equipment and am tired of f'en around but am also to cheap to just drop cash without knowing what's up.
I probably wont get a used one just cause now I'd want to know full history of the replacement.

Thoughts?
Thanks

Long shot here...
Wanted to see if anyone might have an extra trap or two they would be willing to part with. Rope and float would be a plus.
This would be my first opener in a yak.
Right on and thanks!

General Fishing Tips / lorance elite 4 hdi help
« on: June 30, 2018, 07:43:33 PM »
Greeting all,
Hoping some one(s) could help explain and correct what's not happening on my ff.
Lorance elite 4 hdi (latest update completed)
So..  old unit on the used yak I recently purchased.
"Every thing works great"
I've put in now 3 times twice with a new battery in the ocean same problem as described below.
My issue is that at the 20' mark.  I lose the bottom reading.  Or if its not lost, it is a faint dotted line that is nearly invisible.  I'm on a shallow fresh water lake for the next few days and changed the settings, i and am hoping to get this figured out before leaving.  I've got photos of all the settings and can only think that I've got the transducer wrong on my settings? Maybe..... but even then I should be able to read below 20'if it works at all right?  It's to consistant in losing bottom at 20' to be random I think. I've pulled some numbers off the transducer but am not sure if I'm getting a good cross # online.
Anyone have any suggestions? Help this is super frustrating.  Of course I resented the unit back to factory settings originally to "figure it out".   :smt013

Thanks,
J. Ice

General Talk / How to drain a battery
« on: June 06, 2018, 12:33:13 PM »
 :smt006
Maybe a silly question, but any thoughts on how to effectively drain 12v battery after a day on the water?  I'm considering this in an effort to prolong the life of said batteries.  FISH finder, trolling motor ext.  I've heard it is better to keep a dead battery for long term storage than a partially charged one.  Though best is to have a battery tender hooked up (not practical).  Maybe I'm over thinking it.
Thanks,
J. Ice

Let me know if anybody has any interest
