Slab is just o.k. for fishing if you've not fished it before. Takes a little time to work out time of day and depths. It's such a narrow, deep channel. Early is best, launch at the ramp upstream from the dam. To reach the dam, take North Canyon Rd. to Slab Creek Rd. It's a gravel road and quite dusty. There's a gate at the top controlled by a satellite clock to open and close at sunrise and sunset. If you arrive before sunrise and the gate is closed, pull up very close to the gate. There is a buried sensor on the other side to open the gate if you get caught back there after sunset. By getting your bumper close, the sensor will trigger and open the gate for you. The road gets real narrow after you get to the bottom and start taking the side road up stream to the launch area. Several years ago a family tried to turn around, slipped off the road and two kids drowned. Do not try to turn around once on this road! There's room to turn at the launch. Once on the water, paddle to the North shore and troll close to the shore. It's like a cliff. You can be 5 feet off shore and over 50 feet of water. Check out the coves. I troll a spinner with a chunk of worm off the hook. The lake holds a lot of sucker fish that will readily take your lure. Too bony to eat but they do put up a fair fight. Local warden checks it pretty regular evenings and weekends, when the local kids use the place. Paddle upstream as much as 8 miles to the Forebay Rd. bridge. Some folks launch there, but then it's a upstream paddle back to the put-in. Most strikes will occur before the sun hits the water. In such a steep canyon, that's around 10am or so. I've never seen bass in that lake taken.
Here is a video of the road at the bottom that leads up stream from the dam to the launch area. In the video, the guy is driving out. On the way in, the lake is on the left. This road is every bit as narrow and the drops are every bit as steep as they seem. Not a road you want to meet someone coming the other direction!

Float the whole thing; 2 vehicles. Take Forebay road in Pollock all the way down to the river where it dumps into SC. That's your launch. Take Carson rd to North Canyon rd to Slab Creek rd as the take out. Plenty of beautiful scenery and some decent fishing along the way. Fish for bass and trout. You'll know what to fish for based on the topography as you go. Be prepared for wind as it can really kick up through that canyon. Not a lot of places to pull over and beach as it's a ravine so plan accordingly.

also keep an eye out on water levels as there are huge fluctuations there due to releases in summer. Once i saw someones campsite float away during the night, and their boat drifted and was stuck near the dam that we had to rescue. :smt009
