quick Q...
So as I am from Socal... we have lobster... not dungenous so we use hoops, not cages/traps.
Back in the day I used to crab off of Pacifica using flat hoops... before they introduced that no night time access rule.

I only have those conical hoops now.
How do they work for dungenous? Can they escape from the conical's? what should my "pull up & check" times be from a yak using those?

I just googled conical lobster trap. They don't look much different from my crab rings. They should be fine. I check my rings about every 15 min give or take. For bait, a lot of guys use chicken, fish carcasses, or mackerel.

I'm gonna try the cove...I've only crabbed off the dock too. I remember O2B dropping a couple of pots in the cove, and paddling up the river a bit with rings.

20'-75' if I remember right. I plan on staying shallow and on the north side of the cove. Sandy bottom there. Plus my ropes are only about 35' long.
