My first ocean fish on a tag along with some of the experienced guys out of Depoe Bay 3 years ago I believe ( but my memory sucks) it wasn't a big fish bye any means but it got me hooked on rockfish.
-
I don't think there were cameras back then.
-
Nice fish that's a great first from the yak!
My first fish from the kayak was this beautiful bow from blue lakes in 2012. You can tell I'm a kook by the guides on my rod lol :smt044

First hookup doesn't seem like that long ago
-
I found pics of Ravensblack's first hookup.
-
Can seem to find a picture of my first time kayak fishing, but it was out of Santa Cruz and I caught a 12# halibut.
The second time was also out of Santa Cruz. I caught a 34# halibut. I was on the old Cobra Triple with my buddy Tom that day. He caught a 25# halibut. And we lost 1 other that was between these 2.
There are no fish in Santa Cruz.

My third time out, I met some guy named Bill. We got lost in the fog at Davenport. My fourth time out I met some guy named Joel at Del Valle.

Got rejected from the Los Banos creek because i was smart enough to wash my "new to me kayak the night before. So we headed down to the San Joaquin river and caught a pile of these little bass! It was a great first outing, with matching difficulty level for fist time kayaker.

Jim , do you even recognize what's in your left hand??? How old is that photo if you are actually using a fishing pole?

This was a regular 'ol hook up shortly before the OysterPoint tourney. I had my P13 by the time the tourney rolled around. Shit, I think I got my P13 within a week of this picture being taken.
I was hooked lol
-
Damn. I don't even remember that. I thought that pic was the tourney day.

this is the first OTW picture I could find July 7 2003. A passing powerboat took the shot. I had just won that Caper in the Kayak Connection contest and took my neighbor's brother in law out. He caught a 30#+ flattie. Thing scared me!

I caught what I'm pretty sure was a jacksmelt in Humboldt bay. It took a 3" plastic shad that I usually use for black bass that was much too big for it to eat and then jumped in the boat and removed the hook itself. I am still trying to get used to fishing from a kayak so I wasn't trying to catch anything so much as figure out how fishing from a kayak works. So I took a picture and tossed it back.
-
Nice. I don't know much of Humbolt Bay, But in Monterey Bay that Jacksmelt would of been sent back down to fech mr.butt or mr.ling :smt003

5/8/17 Fortunate to borrow a pair of kayaks for our first time yak fishing. Thanks @Bushy! We arrived at Coyote Lake just when everyone was leaving, lolol. On the water at 5pm and fished for 2 hours. It was a success with my first LMB!! I did spend a lot of time stuck in the bushes/ trees 😋.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170509/787e24616580d50b417a15ca74924971.jpg)

My first largish LMB out of Lake Chabot in my, now gone, Lifetime Tamarack 110. I remember randomly throwing a wacky hook Senko in to some reeds for the heck of it, then BAM! Took me on my first sleigh ride. Glad the 6lb flourocarbon - to- braid FG knot held up!
