The sixth annual Simply Fishing Tournament will be Saturday, September 21 at Ocean Cove Campground and Launch. New will be an Open Division allowing pedal driven kayaks in addition to the familiar paddle only division. Title Sponsors Pitbull Tackle/ Monster Fishing Tackle Online/Outdoor ProShop and Kayak City will add a bunch of exciting new twists! Details to come soon from new Tournament Director Amos Foreman who is taking over from the universally liked and respected officiant Ruben Ledesma, who is stepping aside after five wonderfully successful years. Top finishers will receive entry in the 2020 Estero Kayak challenge and awards from Cal-Salt California Saltwater Kayak Series amongst other awards and prizes.Stay Tuned!

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”

Interesting. May I ask what prompted the change?

I also think Yahopper Hopper's event is that weekend also....

That’s too bad. I wanted to do them both.

The purity of paddling is a joy to both Ruben and I but he has doubled down as the North American importer of high performance Stealth paddle yaks whereas I went to the Hobie Mirage Outback this year which is beautifully efficient, if not so elegant . Disallowing sonar and providing all tournament terminal tackle levels the playing field and makes this tournament one beginners should find Non-threatening and supportive. There are enough things to command ones attention while building saltwater kayaking skills without worrying about having more, newer, and costlier gear in order to keep up. I am happy to maintain that spirit but didn’t want to exclude Hobie or other pedal driven craft. Three reasons behind it 1.  I embraced pedaling myself  2. Pedal kayakers don’t necessarily have paddle craft lying around and want to participate 3. I recognize that their may be paddlers who consider it special to compete, only against other paddle boats so the paddle only division...but anyone may compete in the open division as long as they are human or sail powered.
Yes there is another event four and half hours away, the overlap was unintentional, one of the Saturdays in mid September is this events customary date.  C’est la vie
