Stoked to announce our first Demo day/Fish and chill day of the season.  Sunday August 5th we will be at D.L Bliss State Park (Lake Tahoe) from 8-Sunset. We will be bringing our entire demo fleet of Jackson Kayaks and Tahoe SUP.

I hope I can make it up there. What do you think will be the hot bite in that area? Will you have info or tips for those that are new to Tahoe? I’ve been up there several times before but I haven’t gotten on any fish yet.

Traildad, The hot bite right now is Kokanee on the south shore, but since we'll be going out from D.L Bliss the target will probably be Mackinaw.  Yes we will have at least one member of the fishing team available to try and put folks on fish.

Sounds good. I'm all set on fishing for Macks. A few tips on gear and techniques here online might encourage others to give it a try. It doesn't hurt to know a little before you get otw.  :smt006

We just went to Bliss this past Saturday.  Got to the kiosk at about 830AM and they were just putting the sign out indicating that all beach parking was full.  On a weekend in the summer you may find that having a demo day at Bliss is problematic.  Best of luck.  :smt001

Traildad, Feel free to ask for specifics but I'll do my best to provide some tips. For starters we usually jig for the macks with anything from a 1/2 ounce- 4ounce jig depending on variables like depth, wind, etc.  We always tip our jigs with live minnows( caught only in Tahoe, cannot use live bait not caught in Tahoe). We jig along shelves and potholes along the bottom. The Macks are deep this time of year.  If you are rigged with a downrigger you can use a set of flashers with a minnow in tow. Sonar is a must.
For the Kokanee this time of year head out from Edgewood or the Keys and run a set of flashers with a wedding ring or something similar tipped with shoepeg corn that has been soaked in something like procure.  The Kokanee will soon start staging off of Taylor creek and the bite will be real good. Right now we are finding them anywhere from 40-80ft down.
You are always welcome to call me at 530-314-3523 and I'll be able to answer any questions much quicker than I can on here.

LoletaEric, Yes the full parking can present some pros and cons for sure. Most people that are fishing will be there well before the parking fills up though. This last weekend was especially busy do to Yosemite being closed. We will be out there every other Sunday for the rest of the season if you'd like to join us on a slower weekend later in the year.

Hope to meet some of you out there!

I'm running into some issues with getting a permit to serve food out there, doing my best to get the permit but it may not happen in time just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

I just thought there might be some people that want to attend that are new to Tahoe. It might be helpful if they have an idea on what kind of gear to show up with.  :smt006

P-Line later minnow and a minnow trap. All you need. Unless you want to drag herring a round.

I tried the minnow trap last winter for nada. Is it supposed to be left deep or shallow?

Hard if not impossible to catch them in the winter in my opinion. Place traps near rock piles in 20-30 FOW. At least that is what I do. I get so many in my trap sometimes no more will fit in it.

I substitute minnows with Gulp Minnows when I can not trap them. You can jig without minnows too.

few extra dumb questions i'll ask:

-do you just use a chunk of bread or something as trap bait?
-how long do you usually need to leave the trap?
-hook the minnow through the nose?

FriedKalamari,

-We use Hostess crumb donuts in our traps
-Traps can fill up quickly, had over 100 in mine the other day after just a few minute soak
-Yes hook through the nose and they tend to stay alive for a long time
