I went to college with a guy that could do this, I had no idea it was that rare.  His name was Brian and he was on the swim team.  Everybody called him chicken because he carried a rubber chicken with him everywhere he went.  He even filled it with beer from the tap and drank out of it.  Dude was pretty bizarre.  But he could tell you exactly what day of the week something was, what the weather was like, where he was, what he did, what he ate, etc. just like in the article.

There's another bizarre phenomena that I learned about recently that is more common and might be related.

My daughter has a form of synesthesia and it's kind of fascinating.  Smells have colors, words and numbers have genders and personalities.  They do not change over time.  Her memory recall is excellent, she can recite 200+ numbers of pi, musically talented, etc.

The human brain is pretty weird and capable of some amazing things.
