Hi everyone,
I will be at campsite 6a for Thursday night and hope some one will have a spare parking place so I can stay Friday night as well..... out Saturday by about noon as I have to beat feet to Grass Valley for a wedding.   I am happy to pay for the parking if any is available as I sleep in my truck.

Look foreward to seeing fellow Ncka folks.

That seems like a good idea.... I already have too much stuff on the kayak and keeping it simple for me is a good idea.

General Fishing Tips / Re: How many of you have 2-rod stamp?
« on: April 17, 2024, 03:22:51 PM »
Hi All,
Just got the two rod this year.... most of the time I just use one rod but when kokanee fishing I have used two at different depth with potentially different lures to help me hone in on where and how they like it.  Not sure if I will do it again but ask me after this season.

In the past in the ocean (where you dont need the stamp(i think) I have tangled terribly multiple times when using two rods .  I think I really most times I can only handle one rod.

Hi All,
Yep bonding to PE is a tough one..... Joe thanks for the tip with the peregard..... ordered as it looks like it may be a good as I can do.... I try to be carefull but with may tank of a yak but some of the launches I frequent the hull takes a beating.   My old town fully loaded seems to be in the 150 lb range maybe even more..... while I can lift 150 still (not sure how much longer) when it is shaped in a 12 foot  cigar with poles tackle etc it is a bit much.... glad to see some can keep their hulls in good shape but it is not happening for me.

Last month a car cut into my lane on the highway and I tried to manuever out of their way (nearly hit me) and my 2" harbor freight strap broke.... long story short my tail patch is pretty much gone now and also wore away some of the pe..... still water tight and will be repaired shortly.... was glad I had a very heavy thick yak at that time till I had to unload it at home.  I guess two years is too much to ask of a strap.... will be replaceing more frequently and checking more often.... lesson learned.

thanks again

Hi everyone,
I spent about 75 dollars on Jb Weld to do mine and it lasted almost a year..... it is all peeled off now and I am thinking of trying rustoleum truck bed using their activator....saw it some where on youtube..... probably will not hold up well either and may reinstall my kydex for the bow and just fill all the many many scratches with ptex.  At least it is not as pricey as jb and looks to be easier to install.

good thing my kayak is built thick.... Old town sportsman.... but boy is it heavy.

If anyone knows of a better way to protect the hull I would love to hear about it.   But for me the Jb is not the way....too $$$ and too tough to apply.

Hi Kevin,
I am thinking of going to sly midweek next week.... how the fishing been?

Thanks
Troy

Launched Bo four times and 4 yardsales on landing..... it is not the huge surf (usually not too big) but the lack of beach especially at higher tides.... sometimes you have to land right on the ramp or very close to it.... small thumping shore pound can be challanging..... lost a net a pole a downrigger weight and a radio..... not all at once but over the 4 landings.... Sure others have done worse with much equipment loss.

Made me take a surf kayak class in Half moon bay..... then they closed salmon season so I have yet to try it again with some techniques that I had no idea of before....  Think I can land safely now but will be stowing everything I can before trying again.

Half moon bay and Monterey and Doran are a whole lot easier.

Hi Paul,
Glad you and wife are good.... and the cell phones.   Sorry you lost gear.... it seem that with me this always occurs after or during a skunk.... make me remember it all the more and also makes me reconsider all of my safety gear and proceedures.  Thanks for the sharing of a story with a good ending (except the skunk and lost gear).

I would love to join you next year as I love lobster and know nothing about that fishery.
