General Talk / Custom rod reccomendations
« on: March 13, 2018, 09:49:25 AM »
Hi y'all  :smt006

I'm hoping to have a custom rod made for my daughter's 1st birthday. Nothing too fancy, probably an ultralight spinning setup she could use for bluegill, creek trout etc. as she grows up. This will not be her first rod, we have plenty of beater ugly sticks for the first couple years when they use them to smack every bush and rock in sight, but will be a rod she can grow into. Components don't need to be top of the line but I'd like some custom colors and maybe her name.

I'm having trouble finding a custom rod builder who will return my voicemails, so I figured I would turn to the wealth of knowledge on the forum for advise.

Anybody have good experiences with local rod builders? I'm open to non-local as well but local is always a bonus. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks!

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Need tuna charter advise
« on: February 27, 2012, 02:59:45 PM »
Hey Guys,

I'm looking to plan a tuna charter for this Fall. I want to leave from a Nor Cal port to save on some travel expense (and from what I've read the fishing can be pretty good right here at home).

I've never gone after tuna, so don't really know what to expect or where to begin. I'm open to different types of trips, but I would need a minimum of 6 spots (possibly more). I'm open to overnighters, but they may be cost prohibitive. Cost will be a consideration, but I know that you get what you pay for, so I'm not looking for the cheapest trip I can find. I will also need all gear and tackle to be included.

With that said, does anybody have Port suggestions, charter service or boat/captain suggestions, month suggestions? You can PM me if you don't want to post names. Can anybody tell me what I can expect in terms of prices, success rates etc.?

Thanks in advance fellas :beer2

General Talk / garage sale SCORE
« on: February 28, 2011, 09:37:26 AM »
so a couple weeks ago my dad said he picked up a fishing reel for me at a garage sale for $2. I just picked it up from him and it's a Penn International 2, 30 TW, SCORE! A couple little nicks and the clicker makes a horrendous sound, but other than that I've now got a fully functional $2 big game reel. The question now is what the heck do I do with it? I don't have the $/means to put myself on blue water fish, and can't really think of a way to use this reel for nearshore SW or FW applications. What would you do with this reel if you didn't have a six pack ready to take you out to tuna or sailfish?

Thinking about making a morning trip to Tulloch to drag for trout. I've never fished Tulloch before so advice and company welcome!

Ocean Kayaks / OK T13 weight capacity?
« on: November 19, 2010, 08:32:31 AM »
I recently bought a used T13 and see everywhere that the weight capacity is a range (425-475lbs). I'm wondering what determines where in this range MY boat's capacity is. Is this range based on possible accessories e.g. rudder etc.? When I'm all geared up for duck hunting out of it I will probably be pushing the lower end of that limit and just want to be safe.

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, I'm new to the forum and couldn't find anything through the search function.

Thanks!
