Glad I can ask you for details.
How big? Did you go into the drink?
Did it come back for more?
After a settling beverage or ten tell us the story.

I take it SS is shark shield.  These look expensive - do they work?

This has been discussed a few times here. IMHO, the evidence is pretty good that it will help deter an attack on a kayaker. There are a few studies listed on the SS website:
https://sharkshield.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/14000073094

Table 4 in this study seems pretty impressive to me:
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0062730
It gives the results of a "dynamic tow" experiment which seems the best match to a kayak on the surface. Their results show 16 breaches and 27 "surface interactions" in 98 tows with the SS turned off, as compared to 0 breaches and 2 surface interactions in 91 tows with the SS turned on.

Yesterday I posted a few pics and the phrase "Yum Yum Yellow ...Bullshit!".
Well,
Let me explain.
It was a perfect day, overcast and hazy, with flat seas and 30ft visibility.
A local friend and I decided to go for Cali-Hali and reports were pointing us to an area in front of the Tides Inn known as Bread & Butter. We fished for several hours with good success for mostly Rock Sole. Finally after working around the area, we started to get some quality Cali-Hali to take our offerings. I landed a nice 34 inches and cut the gills for a quick bleed. As I untangle  my gear to rebait, I get my hook stuck in my SS (Shark Shield). I remember the last time I touched that thing, so I turn off the SS and remove the hooks, rebait and at that moment my buddy hooks up. We get his in the net, and then into his ice chest. His fish goes wild and flips out of the chest and returns to the sea. Laughing and cursing about what just happened, we continue about our day. Another hour later,  we are 10ft apart discussing the use of a game clip for large fish when out of nowhere I get slammed from my left side and I'm thrown about 3 - 4ft to my right by a 13 - 15ft Great White. As he passes to my right he parallels my yak and gives me a couple slaps of the tail then disappears into the depths. I yell to my buddy "It's a Great White!". Meanwhile I'm wondering why I got hit with a SS instead of my buddy when I remembered that I never turned it back on earlier and to make matters worse, I still had the Halibut hanging off the side. I instantly pull the Hali out of the water and turn the SS back on. Together we fish a few minutes longer before deciding not to risk it. As we make it back to the beach, I check out the front of my yak and find a fragment of a tooth in bedded in one of the bite marks.
Lessons learned  ...
1. Don't leave fish hanging in the salt
2. Don't forget to turn on the SS.
3. Don't dangle feet in Salt
4. Always have clean underwear!
