There are many threads on here on downrigger balls. I too have been searching for the right combination of weight, shape, and cost.

I contacted bottomlinetackle.com and requested some custom pipe weights. Their website mentions the fact that they take custom orders, so I explained what I was looking for, that I am a kayaker and use a Scotty laketroller. After a bit of discussion, I requested two 2.5 lb pipe weights. I tried them and found them to be too light.

So I changed up my DR mounts and contacted them again. We discussed the blowback at speeds above 2 mph, and I requested two 4 lb weights and asked how much they would cost (the 2.5 pounders cost $20 shipping included)

Instead of quoting me a price, they sent a box with 4 sample weights and asked me to let them know which worked best for the kayak. I assume they did this because they hope I like them, and spread the word.

Well I do like them, and I enjoyed working with these guys too, really sincere customer service. So, I think the only fair thing to do is offer the freebies I received to anyone that wants to give them a try. I have two 4 lb sticks at 3” diameter (short/fat) and two 4 lb sticks at 1.5” diameter (long/skinny). I preferred the short and fat ones.

If you are interested PM and and we can figure out how I’ll get them to you. Hope this helps BLT, I’ll be contacting them to order two 4lb short/fatties this afternoon in case somebody takes me up on the offer.

I'd love to give them a try too! Could be a lot easier to pull up due to shape too
