I'm new to kayak fishing and getting all the gear I need to hit the ocean -- a catch bag is on my list.

I was just planning on using a burlap sack, but then I saw someone Eddie mention "safety purposes". Is this because of blood containment and sharks? How big of a deal is keeping fish in something like this vs a sack that can seep through?

Also Eddie, what is the widthxheight on that bag? Looks like Dakine isn't listing the specs. Thanks for the link!
Safety on my end is for losing the fish to a competitive predator of any size or species.  The fish will be bled before bagged.  Specs will follow, I left it at work.  It will not fit in my mid hatch so I'm debating attaching to front top or behind my seat and both will work.  Behind my seat is winning the debate for wind drag purposes vs. the front as it is a square shape...

Nice bag Eddie,  but what if your Ulua bigga than da bag? Nahh only kidding.  I'm going to order that bag, thanks.
Geetum brah!  Fish do not get Ulua size here but a fat salmon or hali may test that bag well... :smt006

Back in the day we just used gunny sacks and got them wet once in a while.  I have 2 friends who still do. Too many choices these days.  :smt004
Problem with those gunny sacks is they are so hard to clean afterwards
I was okay w/ gunny sacks until catching small salmon. I was finding out the small salmon’s meat get mushy quick when you don’t ice them right away especially in south of SF...
I don’t think it really matters for rockfish, but the Hobie kill bag that I have created extra storage on my kayak so that’s kind nice. It sits top of bungee that I can still use the bottom part, also the bungee that comes w/ bags are perfect place to store the game clips & hawg trough. Im just using the existing Hobie tank well bungee to attach them too (you don’t need any extra straps or anything for the Revo).

When I use gunny sacks, I just rinse it hang it dry. Some crazy reason the smells go away after dry completely.

Haha, yeah. When I used to live in Daly City, nothing would dry for days. I had to put my boots on a boot dryer every time. Now that I live in Fairfield, all it takes is a few hours and everything is bone dry under the sun, even in the garage. Buutt, I live far from the salt now also  :smt012
