Fish Talk / New fish for my backyard pond
« on: May 24, 2023, 03:30:49 PM »
I recently ordered some more fish for my backyard pond. I got 10 channel cats & 15 bluegill from this place in Florida. They all arrived alive and seem to be acclimating well. When I ordered, they had hybrid striped bass too, but now they’re gone from the website. That would be cool to have some wipers in my backyard…although they’re probably eat the other fish haha. Anyways, catfish derby at my house in 5 years!

AOTY / AOTY is free in 2022
« on: January 03, 2022, 10:43:16 PM »
Dang, I wrote this longass post on my phone about how AOTY is free to enter in 2022, then hit the wrong button and it disappeared. So, I’m starting over and this post will be much shorter haha.

AOTY is free to enter in 2022. I will renew everybody’s account from 2021. If you’re new, create an account on the AOTY website then send me a PM or reply to the 2022 Participants List post, and I will activate your account: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=97376.msg1091617#msg1091617
If you have an old/expired account and want to get back into the game, let me know, so I can activate your old account.

This means we will not have a bunch of awards. But we will still solicit/accept prizes as donations, from sponsors & partners. And we will continue the 20+ year tradition of Piscean redwood plaques for First Place, even if I have to buy them myself.

I hope this encourages more folks to participate. It will absolutely make you a better angler. And a better photographer (yes we will still be judging the entries).

General Talk / How to process entry fees for AOTY & DOTY in 2022?
« on: December 06, 2021, 09:12:04 AM »
We need to find a new/better way to accept entry fees for AOTY & DOTY next year. Paypal has discontinued the Money Pool feature that we used the last few years.
Does anybody have ideas how to accept/process entry fees electronically? (Without paying $$ fees and without using my personal bank acct)
If somebody here operates an e-commerce style website, maybe we can utilize their payment platform to process Aoty & Doty entry fees? [trying to think outside the box here]

General Talk / New resorts at Lake Berryessa
« on: October 25, 2021, 10:50:12 AM »
Have you guys seen the plans for new resorts at Berryessa? I am bummed they removed some camping (in exchange for glamping options), but I love the idea of fixing up the resorts and adding new things—like a brewery at Steele Park! (errr, The Launch now)

Kayaks / Replacement seat strap for Crescent Ultralite
« on: July 14, 2021, 11:16:37 AM »
My aunt & uncle both have Crescent Ultralites that they bought from Headwaters a few years ago. The straps on the back of the seat (that attach to the kayak) have worn out and broke—probably due to sun exposure. I’d like to buy replacements but I can’t find them anywhere. Does anybody know where I can find them?

AOTY / Biggest Trout in AOTY history
« on: February 10, 2021, 11:37:20 AM »
Congrats to DeepseaDrew on catching the new record for the Trout category at 28.5” long!
http://aoty.norcalkayakanglers.com/leader_board/6954/show
It’s also the 18th highest scoring fish ever. Or 8th highest ever if you remove the 10 sturgeon over 220.8 points. In that case, the only higher scoring fish were a rockfish, a wsb, a brown trout, 2 cali butts, and 2 stripers.

AOTY / Congrats to the 2020 Angler of the Year: ThreemoneyJ
« on: January 04, 2021, 05:13:59 PM »
Congrats to the top kayak angler of 2020: ThreemoneyJ aka John!
John finished with 1771.5 points in 2020. His highest-scoring fish was a 40.25” CA halibut worth 201.25 points. He entered 28 fish and caught the biggest fish for 4 different species: CA halibut, Smallmouth/Spotted Bass, Kokanee, and Panfish.

You could say he was due—after finishing Third in 2019, Fifth in 2018, Seventh in 2017, and Fifth in 2016. But this has nothing to do with luck. It’s a testament to John’s dedication and skill. I’m not sure how many thousands of miles he’s driven to chase fish...or how many miles he’s paddled for AOTY but I can tell you he’s entered 131 fish since he began competing in 2016. And one of the few people to have entered 19 different species during his AOTY career.
