We take some comfort thinking it's a dumb young one, and they won't like the taste.  But Adam's came back and chewed on it more while he was still in the water holding on to the other end/side. Leave it to him to notice how deep the tooth marks are.

HOLY SHIT!!  it meant business by the looks (depth of those teeth marks) YIKKES! Glad to read that he is ok and no blood was shed.

Spoken by one who KNOWS

Hey Adam - I have a different opinion. Based on the pictures it looks like the shark took a bite and left since it figured a plastic kayak is not food.  Ralph told me a if a GWS is looking for food it would first bite and then will follow with a chew to rip a piece off.  The chewing part leaves long slash marks.  This is my only my personal opinion based on pics 2 and 3 that doesn't show long gashes.  Happy to hear the kayaker is safe.

Wow, glad he is okay and managed to get back on his boat right away.

Mental note to practice self rescue. It has been a while since I last tried....

Hey man, I don't know my way around down there, but somewhere off Santa Cruz down to Aptos there's been observations of fucking schools of  10' GWS. Just peacefull fish doing what  fish do. they nibble on kayaks quite a bit.  The bummer is that increases our odds of  bad shit. Good news is the odds go from in a million to one in 100,000. My
bullshit numbers. Trying to say it's still a long shot of getting bit.  Maybe try to splash less and no fish blood  in the water.

The ones in Aptos are Bushys friends. Ask him about the one swimming  close in the surf while he goes after Surfperch.

That sounds like a good story.  I would like to hear that one.

Yikes!

Let's hope they don't start getting use to the taste of a Shark Shield like it were wasabi or sriracha  :smt003

That video was horrifyingly mesmerizing. Also VERY happy to know that the sharks congeregate off our coast in september and october. Thanks for the shares everyone. SO GLAD that he made it out of that situation whole!

I once had a dolphin spear directly towards my kayak like it was going to ram me....if that were a shark?? Oh man. I really cannot imagine it, despite trying for the last few minutes. I guess I'll get my chance if I do this long enough...
