Kayaks / Re: Paddles?

I have a Werner Camano 240 cm and love it.
We just bought 2 Manta Ray paddles by Aqua-Bound from CCK. With tax they are $150 each. You can spens less but you can also spend a LOT more. They are sturdy paddles. They have carbon shafts and weigh in at 31.75 oz. and are 230cm.
CHUB loves his new paddle and so does Becky. I think it is a pretty decent bang for the buck.

I think they should let them pass and grow a set of huevos to handle the whiners who will be asking, " Why is it ok for them and not for me??"
Maybe even provide them an escort so it won't raise too many eyebrows.

It would be a great place to make a group reservation and have a MBF tourney.

Forget the Necky Dolphin. You will not be happy with that kayak.
I weigh in at 193 ( ugh ) and I have a prowler 15. Suits me fine.
I also have a tarpon 160 ( the original ) and it is fine too.
I am expecting to have a brand new Cobra Maurader immediately following the ELK tourney as well..Yea, I said it!!!!!! :headbang:

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Emerald Bay - Tahoe
« on: July 31, 2006, 04:24:48 PM »
I have checked out those sites and they did not look very appealing. You get a LOT of foot traffic through there from the tourists who walk down the trail from the top and then decide to go exploring. Obviously you also get all the boaters who are camping and a TON of boat traffic in and out of Emerald bay. I hope you are planning a weekday trip.
I do not know of anywhere close to there you could leave your vehicles for an extended period. If you were close to a casino you could always leave them in the parking lot indefinitely.
When ya headed up?

General Talk / Rock Boiler Practice
« on: July 29, 2006, 09:16:13 PM »
Did the Tahoe paddle today from Cave Rock to Zephyr Cove and back.
Started out flat as a pancake but anticipated winds 10-15 mph and gusts to 30mph.
Made it to Zephyr Cove with zero wind. While having lunch the wind kicked up out of no where.
White caps everywhere and big swells from the wind and boats. The wind was at our backs so paddling was no problem ( had the RoRow's so it wouldn't have mattered anyway :smt002 ).
This turned out to be the perfect opportunity to practice maneuvering around boilers.
For those of you who may not know what a boiler is; it is a rock or other structure which is below the surface the suddenly appears above the surface due to swell or wave action. They seem to appear out of no where and can be very hazardous.
I found some rocks that were getting hammered by the action on the water and headed straight in to them. Not only was it a tremendous way to practice it was a BLAST!! Spent some time in there and got pretty worn out.
First pic is how the water started, the rest speak for themselves.
Calm seas do not make a skilled kayaker. Practice honing your skills safely when you can.

Where do you live? I am in Placerville and am always looking for someone to share gas with to the coast.
PM me if you want to check out my yaks. I fish with them anywhere.

You need to contact Zilla. He is the yeti KING of Tahoe.
Otherwise toss a minnow trap into the rocks near shore with some dog food in it. Get your bait, hook them thru the nose and drop 'em down using a sliding egg sinker.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Prowler plano box
« on: July 25, 2006, 04:27:09 PM »
I thought about a bait tank until I saw everything involved. The room it takes up and the extra weight involved just isn't worth it to me.
The bait tube works great. Takes little room and is lightweight. I do not need a battery, a pump, a net, and all the other bells and whistles that one can put into building a bait tank. I can also pull the bait tube right up to me. No turning around to the back to bait up.
I think that a lot of people in So Cal do it just to pimp their yak. Don't want the other guy to have something they don't!!! Doesn't matter if they need it or not, they just try to keep up with the Jones.
I would try a bait tube first. If it isn't your thing then go to a live bait well. You might just be surprised at how well the tube works though.
