General Talk / Worst Smelling Garbage Can EVER!!!!
« on: July 14, 2018, 09:52:40 AM »
So first week of garbage at the new house. New can, but it sits directly in the sun...for now.
We moved in July 23rd but the contractor finally left for good yesterday so still living with everything strewn about.
Wednesday is our garbage pick up day so it goes to the curb Tuesday.
I walk out to the patio to get the can and right above my head I hear a whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. Big wings from a  big bird; then another.
I look up and see about 7 buzzards circling real low right above the patio.
Hm, that's weird. Then I get a whiff from the direction of the garbage can. OMG!!! Was it BAD!
I guess the heat box baking all the trash really went off.
I took the can to the curb, which is 130 yards away and forgot about it.
Next day I get the can, no smell.
I put it back where it came from, walked away, and got another whiff of that awful smell.
WTF???
So I put my sniffer to work and it took me up the hill directly above the cans.
Felt like a bloodhound, but I found it.
Not the can at all.
Not sure what got this little guy, but the deer haven't been around for a bit and they would graze in the yard as we sat on the deck.
Chadrock and I saw 2 deer bolt from the top of that hill down the side of our yard the day after I moved in. Wonder what made them bolt?
I am relieved to know it wasn't my garbage causing the gathering of buzzards.  :smt044

Ten days to go and it will be gone.

Talkin' about the Tote Bar.
We sold our house and are moving.
Looking for a reopening in 2019.
Thanks to all who made it what it was.

General Talk / Get Your Stash Yet??????
« on: February 25, 2018, 06:59:25 PM »
Probably not! They just opened in January.
Stash Brewery in the middle of nowhere.
Butete might know of it, he lives there too.
Garden Valley, CA.
It's a warehouse in the middle of a cleared out field of rocks. Nothing else is around it.
Dirt road entrance.
Pretty much a mom 'n pop operation.
Their beers are Belgian style beer, which I am not a fan of.
I tried every beer they had and liked every beer they had.
Tried either 7 or 9 beers. Who really remembers after 5?  I would order any of them again.
If you are ever in Garden Valley, check them out; or better yet make it a day trip.
We walked in and were the only two there, not long after the place was packed.. :smt044 :smt044
You'll get the humor when you go.
We will definitely be back.

General Talk / Carrying a Tourniquet While Diving
« on: November 26, 2017, 11:40:13 AM »
Great concept,but really practical?
Wanted to open this on it's own thread.
Sitting here, comfortably in front of the computer, it's easy to rationalize applying a tourniquet to a bleeding wound.
But in the heat of the moment would you really have the opportunity or the wherewithal to do it given a GWS scenario given the pain, fear and shock of the moment? Would your motor skills, at that moment, even be capable of deploying the device properly? Would you even be able to get it out of the case?
And what's to say the GWS wouldn't have taken it during the attack?
I think it would be better to leave it on your dive platform if you are going to have one at all.
You certainly won't be applying it in the water. That's the first place you want to get out of.
Way too many times I've seen people talk the talk but when the $#!T really hit the fan they were completely incapable of walking the walk.
If you want to carry one on your person, that's fine, but have a back up in your dive platform.

General Fishing Tips / Another way to tie a Palomar knot?

Tuna knot?
The end result looks like a Palomar to me.
You have to be impressed with the aquarium in the background.  :smt002

General Talk / Twin Stickin' It To The Man!
« on: September 09, 2017, 06:24:28 PM »
The 2 hour project took me 11 hours.
Small section of the plywood sub floor in the way.
Becky wanted the base plate to be under the carpet.....time suck right there.
Cable mount needed to be grinded down a bit to accommodate the speedo cable.
Figuring it out for the first time was fun..not.
And directions? Virtually non existent.
At least itís done!

General Talk / Twin Stick Transfer Case
« on: September 02, 2017, 12:23:22 PM »
Has anyone done a cable twin stick shifter on their transfer case?
I have a golden opportunity on an NP 205 right now and was wondering the pros and cons of cable shifters.........if you really know.

General Talk / Got Pain??
« on: July 23, 2017, 07:45:42 PM »
I have a lot of it.
Wilderneshunter (Bryan) turned me onto this salve.
I'm a definite skeptic so I need real first hand experience before I give a thumbs up.
Knee, shoulder, neck...this really does work.
I tried it with the expectations that it wouldn't work at all.
Did the knee first. Woke up the next morning with no pain. I didn't realize it at first. When I did realize it wasn't hurting I figured it was a fluke.
Shoulder...same thing.
Neck...same thing.
I am sold!
It's kind of like a Mennen Speed Stick. Rub it on where you hurt and, at least for me, pain is either gone or WAY less than before.
Thought I'd pass it on in case anyone else like me is feeling the aches and pains (dare I say it?) of getting older.
Hopefully this will keep me in the game a little longer.
