Title: Malibu x13 ready for gs9!
Post by: cajun on April 14, 2015, 10:44:58 PM
Done some basic rigging on my x13 for the upcoming season. Got this over  a year ago and didn't use it due to sponsors. Look forward to getting it bloody!

I've been staring at your kayak this morning and trying to figure out why I like it so much.  Then it occurred to me...

How do you like the hatch between your legs? I wish it were more forward for better access. It also leaks water.
Did you find good scupper plugs for it? I'm still looking for some that fit we'll enough to keep the water out.

The center hatch isn't easy to get into on the water but that one won't get to much use. As far as leaks this kayak has the driest I've had on any plastic kayak. On my rack my tridents and others would get some water in the hull. This kayak and my stealth evolution stay bone dry.

I am trying to take less gear on the water so center hatch will have mostly safety gear.black park in the back will hold all my tackle and tools.

Considering how frequently Juan actually uses his kayak, I would heed his warning.

Malibu had issues with older hatches on the stealth and x13. This is a 2014 and it has been in the water for paddles, just not fished. After selling them and rigging them for 8 years I water test them myself like my leaky ultra last year.

Thanks, gotta support sponsors at the fundraisers!

This is the one I was worried about with leaks but stays dry in slop.

My X13 is my saltwater boat. I rock a Quest in fresh.

I had an X13 for around a year.  The gator hatch itself would fill up with water, so I drilled a few drain holes. The hull wasn't always dry, probably because of how loose the front hatch fits.

I used a quest when I didn't want to deal with my AI. What is your comparison between the quest and x13 for speed?

Got them to send me a blem extreme with my x13 for $300 more. Still haven't tried the extreme.

I wish the Quest had the X13's hull. The Quest has it all, except for speed and the fact that it takes waves over the bow. The X13 chops right through the chop and has the extra speed.
I also think the Quest is much better built, with quality fittings and a stronger feeling body.
I carry the X13 around in the bed of my Tacoma, and on warm days you can see it bend in half along the edge of the tailgate. This only happens when it is right-side up. I put it in upside down if I don't want that to happen. That's a pain because I then have to strip it down.

I've always said Hobie has the best plastic. I crashes my quest into rocks on a beach landing a couple years ago and just dug out the rocks with my knife. I think it would have broke other kayaks.
