Title: MTO Lithium Battery Version_2
Post by: Chet on April 24, 2019, 10:02:36 AM
After building and testing each lithium battery for sometimes I have learned and made improvement, cut down on build time, made it more robust. However, testing time is not cutting down.
Here is version_2 of my Lithium battery.

The black box can fit through Hobie 8" circular hatch.

Working with oversea supplier is very frustrating, product they promise to deliver is not up to spec…Example, power supply. It’s very critical to NOT over-charge or under-charger a lithium battery. It won’t have immediate effect for less than a year, since Grade A cell can take some beating. Lithium battery is meant to last for years if using and charging properly.

Look at the photos of these chargers, I think I bought them all to test. Some even has no loopback circuit(very bad). Some has the same outlook, but the internal is quite different. Go figure.I even bought a couple chargers from popular name brands…one start with Noxxx , another start with FPxxxx from aus to see how it does. Both of them also overcharge. My guess is they also suffer from the same issue with supplier.
Technical note: Components usually has 1-2% variation. A 1K ohm, can be 980 – 1020ohm.
With so many components inside, it can shift voltage around quite a bit.

It takes the challenge to my own hand, and modify every chargers to the spec. Then testing, if it passes, I lock down the value. This is the only way I can assure it will charge the battery correctly. 2A charger is not enough to cut down the charging time, so here it goes 4A charger will be supplied.

I am confident each battery I make is among the top performing and long-lasting battery on the market. I’ll bump up the warranty period to 18 months. I’ll fix and replace anything and everything if for some reason it fails within that period no question asked.

Four things that this lithium battery is superior than other on the market.
1.   Built on demand, so battery is fresh as it can be. Only Genuine cells are used.
2.   Each charger is modified true to spec.
3.   Longer warranty.
4.   True to Ah capacity. Unlike blue brick battery with exaggerated Ah.
----------------------------------------------------------
-   Built-in battery management system: short circuit, over-current discharge, over-discharge protection.
-   4A Li-ion charger included.
-   Extra layer fuse protection.
-   Each battery cells are tested for internal resistant. Then match them together to get the most out of the battery pack.
-   Waterproof hard case.
-   Sealed on all connectors.
-   Die-electric grease applied to all connectors.
-   Save tremendous weight over (SLA Sealed lead Acid Battery)
-   No current draw limit like other battery pack.
-   No corrosion on battery terminals.
-   Simple to setup, ready to go.
-   Back by 18 months warranty.

Blue box come with 4A chargers and everything to setup with a Fish Finder.
14Ah = $150
17.5Ah = $185
21AH    = $220

Black box come with 4A chargers, Dual USB chargers and everything to setup with a Fish Finder.
It's suitable as a power source for multi days camping trip.
24.5Ah  = $265
.....
.....
Up to 56Ah

P.S. The 42Ah black box was sold to fishingfan.  :smt006

While I haven't personally purchased Chet's Lithium battery pack, I have seen him use the same setup advertised here for approx. the last 2 years. Chet knows how to build shit to last and will stand behind each and every single product he releases.

So are the 10 and 15 amp options no longer available?

The 12Ah is no longer available. I still make 15Ah, but consider dropping it too.
18Ah/21Ah makes so much sense for 2 full days of fishing.
I think it's a good opportunity to explain why I don't make smaller battery, plus $10 increase in price.
It's due to the bigger and newer charger that includes with battery. It costs x3 times compare to older charger, plus I have to spend more time to modify the charger so it won't over-charge or under-charge.

It's one thing I cannot cut cost down without sacrifice performance and longevity of battery.
Yes, I truly aware how expensive lithium battery is and I built it to suit the need for us kayakers, something that is simple to use and will last a long time. I bump up the warranty to 18 months also.

Looking it at another angle. Dakota sells 10Ah battery for $100. Need charger $20. Need box, connector, something to secure it inside box.
After all said and done, it will cost around $150 for a 10Ah battery.

If you are looking for a new kayak battery then I recommend Chet’s Lithium Battery.

This is a solid and well built piece and is well worth the money. It’s a great long term investment for a lithium battery that will be cheaper in the long run compared to lead acids.

I have one of his batteries and it lasts me a full weekend out on the water. 10+ hours at a time on the water plus using it to charge my GoPro batteries plus charging my phone and it still has a ton of juice left for another day or more. I wouldn’t buy a battery anywhere else.

I'll send you a PM.

Just pick up an 18amp battery from Chet a couple of months ago and it work flawlessly.  Seem like the battery last forever
in just one charge.  I've own a Garmin striker plus and the connector of the battery fit perfectly.

For sure these are the batteries to go with the 18aH lasts me about 3 days on the water with a 9inch garmin echomap plus.

Chets been awesome to work with as well. Had a small issue with the older charger and he had me fixed up within a couple days.

Highly recommend, better deal then you are going to find with dakota lithium or bionno power batteries. Not to mention a longer warranty.

That has been the word on the street. I'm putting it to the TLA test. I just flipped my kayak on July 4, on the surf, It was pretty gnarly, and it survived all the chaos/carnage!! Basically it took the crash dummy test and came through unscathed.  Check and passed. --> Onward.

Gonna check connections for corrosion in a few days. Then battery life. I'll write a full review.  :smt001 :smt001

The box is already the actual holder. You can place the box inside the kayak by itself or place it on the built-in bag.
17.5Ah cost $185, and 21Ah cost $220. Lead time is one week.

Hi,

I am looking for 30 amp to power my trolling motor (very small 24 lb thrust).  Do you have a model that would work with that?  As long as the batteries are sealed, I can add my own connector to output wires, which would preferably be 12 GA wire.  Presently using lead batteries that weigh 30 lbs.   Looking to cut that in half or better if possible.

Thanks.

It has not been updated for quite sometimes due to the pandemic and all my supplies had been depleted and the order didn't come in.
Two weeks ago parts arrived from the orders I have placed a couple months back.
Now I am back taking order if you need any battery.

I have been testing this battery on a Scotty downrigger from 6lb to 12lb ball fishing salmon in Monterey area. From shallow up to 200ft of water.
It's on the same battery, except a couple modification I need to make to get it to work. If you need the same setup, let me know.

I cannot let anybody down for sure or they will mock me otw. J/K
Yeah proudly to say that only 2 batteries failed so far. 1 due  to water leakage, the other due to circuit board went bad. Battery cell is solid, not even one gone bad.
Chargers were embarrassingly fail. Around 8-10 chargers failed so far, all taken care of.

I've had my Chet's 17.5Ah Battery for over a year now. It's great, I can rely on it to work time and time again. It's survived 5+ surf landing flips and getting accidentally knocked off at 4 foot high counter top. Knowing my fish finder will actually work has been a blessing, and has resulted in more time on the water and less stress/grief. I fully recommend this battery.

Which one of your batteries do you recommend for the Element HV 9 running 10 hours?

https://www.raymarine.com/element-series/element-hv/models.html

Thanks,

Dave

Spec called for 20W. The 21Ah will do it.
Due to covid, I cannot obtain any more cells since the beginning of this year. I already have my name on the vendor list when it's available.
There is another vendor that can supply them with 100% price increase .  :smt010
I am just going to wait out.

I was wondering this myself.  Potentially buying an electrical reel to fish deep this year.  Was wondering how feasible it would be to build up a battery to wear in a sling or pack when I fish on party boats.  Or dare I say it…..a battery built into a rod butt ….minimal cords, no extra packs?!?!
