I'm not positive that it was in its mouth, but it sure acted like it.  Came in like a mellow little lingcod - twice!

Maybe it was a mellow little lingcod ... that the GW just slurped off your hook.

-Allen

Nope - It came to the yak twice with my bait - like it was on a leash.

It makes me wonder if the GWS are starting to equate kayakers with food (kind of like how furbags have figured it out) due to hanging fish carcasses and when kayaks are in the area, we are pulling up fish they could steal. There is also the research folks' raised idea of the potential of them being territorial.

I'm super glad that the extent of the encounter was a drive-by and no personal contact.

I think you ought to get a spiff from shark shield for all the sales this will generate :smt005

I know large whites will attack smaller ones, so I have to wonder what those marks were from.......

that behavior has indeed  been documented in bull sharks in Australia for sure. They key in on boats, knowing that hooked fish being retrieved are easy pickings.

ugh, that's all we need.........

HOLY SHIT! Eric, you always said if given the chance, you'd be on it. YOU WERE ON IT!! Glad to read YOU SAW IT, cuz you know it's when you DONT SEE IT, is when the shit hits the fan.........and the EFF BOMBS start droppin.
Congrats on the safe encounter of an underwater T-Rex!!! It's great to be alive!!  :smt002

Thank you, Adam!  Brother - you are an inspiration to me, and I share your story with people often.  As far as I know, you are the one guy in NCKA or the Nor Cal kayak fishing community in general who got injured when a shark attacked your yak.  It's nothing to take lightly, and I am thankful that I didn't experience that level of encounter.  Your spirit for the brotherhood in the face of a GWS encounter is what this community is about.

Guess I'm getting a Shark Shield or two...

It's one thing to say what you'd do in a certain situation. It's another to actually do it!
To be that vulnerable and still have the wits about you to not to fumble with the camera buttons and actually get a clear video of that beast is nothing less that remarkable.
Nerves of steel bro. Great job.

The white sharks at Guadalupe island were already conditioned to key in on long range boats, easy pickins on yellowfin.

Glad it was a drive by, that’s a large fkn animal.

Let's just hope that when I do finally have an encounter that I get it on video and there's no bloodshed.   :smt003
