Post by: & on May 07, 2005, 08:11:33 PM
Holy Mary, Mother of Cod!

Kevin, Freddie, Bill, Chuck, Gabe, Eric, Me and Greg out at Mill Creek.

All I can say right now, many hours later, is SHI'ITE!!  My stringer went 36 lbs.

Can't wait to see those picks.

That was just insane. Kevin and I headed down Friday night and did a little roadside camping in his popup trailer. We woke around 6:15 and where packing when we see someone screaming down the highway. It was Eric in his Viper powered pickup. Soon after Chuck and Freddie show up and we take off towards the launch.

We all park and check out the launch. They where a few big swells that made it look rather risky to launch.

There was a lot of time between sets so we all loaded up and headed out without any problems. We paddle down to Erics secret spot and start fishing. Most of us hook up and land a few smallish blues and blacks. Things slow down soon after. We paddle around and catch a few here and there. About an hour later things start getting crazy. We move south a little bit and it goes WFO. Double hookups where common, if you did not get hit within 2 seconds of dropping down it was a miracle. The olives where practically jumping in the boat. At one point I put my rod in the holder to move to a different spot and an olive inhales is right on the surface!

The lings start coming in, I think Gabe landed the first one but Eric landed the biggest at a little over 13 lbs! Once the olives calmed down the reds started up.  They where a little slower than the olives but a lot bigger. My last drop of the day I landed my first legal ling of the season.

Final count for me was about 30 fish landed and I keep 8 rockies and a ling. The cool thing for me was that I caught them all on plastics I poured myself.

Here are some pics of the carnage:

Eric with his massive stringer and lingzilla

Chuck with his nice stringer and bonus sheepshead!

Martin and his buddy with yet another nice stringer.

Totally insane day with a great bunch of guys. Thanks to Eric for sharing his spot and Kevin for letting me hitch a ride!

Nish fish guys.  Wish I could have been there too.

The picture of that steep beach reminds me of Bean Hollow, and so do some of those stories about the landing :smt002

Stu, are you referring to the story of me doing a back flip in the surf as one of those waves catches my kayak and slams me from behind as I step off?  :smt019

Martin described it best, "Ass over tea kettle"...

Yo guys... I meant to do that backflip :smt033

Martin, replacing that broken rudder should cost you about $15-20.  I saw them at California Canoe and Kayak.
As for your plastics, Bill makes his own special swimbaits and maybe you can pay him to pour some for you.  You might also want to ask Kevin where he got his cheap diamond jigs.

I bought from these guys on eBay.  Late last year.  Not the best chrome finish, but pretty inexpensive.

I have also have a 6oz diamond jig mold that I will probably sell.  I'll list on this sit when I get a chance to take a picture.

I will put some up tonight. It is a total buz catching stuff on your own creations. Things I thought would work didn't work at all, things that have worked before worked well.

To give you an idea how crazy the bite was at one point I dropped down a 10" swimbait I made and the olives where hammering it even though it was almost as big as they where. I have to figure out a better hook rig for that one.

I just got a new type of plastic that is way tougher that the stuff I have been using. I did not want to give any plastics out that would shred right away. I am going to do a bit of calculating to see how cheap I can get and I will let you guys know.

Pics of my special creation bait are forthcoming, it was the one special bait that worked. I caught my ling on it.

It was great fishing with everybody out there. I had lots of fun reeling in everything... my poor thumb is all torn up from the spectra though. But, that's not a bad thing. Weather permitting, I hope to hit it again in a couple of weeks.

See you on the water...

Where is a picture of Chuck's CB rig?

The patent may not be out yet, but that lure is PURE GHETTO and costs about nickel, maybe a dime to produce.  I heard it was catching quite a few fish too.

It supposedly attracts fish by both its action and sound.

Chuck,
Do you have any picts??
