Some of you old time been on the water forever may know every trick in the book for reentry. This video covers the classics and two techniques I haven't seen before.  I hope you uses this as a good refresher, or as a something for the new guy and gals to learn.

Looks like a really light yak. Wonder if this technique works on heavier yaks.

When practicing re-entering a sit-on-top kayak, I aim to be able to right the kayak and climb back onto it in less than 20 seconds, without using any gear for assistance.  It seems to me that if you rely on a paddle float and/or a webbing footstep to get back into your kayak, you're going to spend a long time in the water while you locate and deploy that gear.

It seems to me that the main reason to carry a paddle float and/or a webbing footstep is to help another kayaker.  It appears from video I have seen that if a kayaker in the water is inexperienced, overweight, out of shape, sea-sick, or hypothermic, it can be difficult for other kayakers to pull them back onto a sit-on-top kayak, and even harder to get them back into a sit-inside kayak.  A webbing footstep and a paddle float might help get a kayaker back into his or her kayak.  So it might be worth carrying them when paddling with inexperienced kayakers.
