General Talk / Unlucky and lucky
« on: April 06, 2020, 05:03:50 PM »
So I live on the golf course at Greenhorn creek.  They closed the course last week so no golf for me or anyone else.  But that means the ponds are open.  Lived here for 2 years and never really gave it much thought especially with Melones so close.  In the last 3 days I have caught and released over 30 bass and some huge ass bluegill.  Biggest bass so far was just under 3 pounds .  Anything works so it’s real fun to try some of the oddest lures I have never used.  They bite everything but the old worm on a bobber is king.  It’s fun to jump in the golf cart and pond jump catching bass at every stop.  Stay safe everyone and we will get though all of this....

General Talk / 4 Men and a Clam...
« on: March 14, 2019, 10:04:46 AM »
Some of you know that I make clam chowder.  Been competing for 10 years or so and actually won the Santa Cruz Clam chowder festival people's choice award 5 years in a row from 2013-2017.  Won the blind judges 1st place award in 2016 and have gotten most tasted many times. Flew to Orange Beach Alabama in 2017 and competed in the world food championships against every cook and chef you have ever seen on T.V. Got our asses handed to us that weekend but what an eye opener it was and a total blast.

So fast forward to today.  I retired last year and moved up to Angles Camp. Love it. Been making small batches for people starting to get the name out up here. Well I met up with Jan and Patty from the Spice tin in Murphy's. After they sampled my chowder the asked if we would do a chowder day at there cool little spice shop.

So tomorrow's the day.  1:00-4:00 we will be there giving away free samples and selling a little to make up cost.  This might be the start of going global.  lol  We are actually going to start selling it online soon so look for 4 Men and  calm and if you happen to be near Murphy's tomorrow stop on in and a say hello.

Getting ready for a move so starting the process. I own a glass business so I have 2 glass table tops.

(1) 36 x 84 1/2" low iron satin etch with polished edges.  Has 1 small chip on the side that I can sand out but it is visible.
Retail is a little over a grand. It would make a great workbench top or a conference room top.  $200.00

(1) 42 x 72 1/2" clear glass with a 1" bevel. Was a dinning room top.  Its also around $800.00. I'd let it go for $100.00

Garage items:

I found a new Spyderco Triangle sharpmaker.  Forgot I had it...  $45.00

For you exercise enthusiast.

Don't ask me why I have it but I have a brand new Blackburn Tech Mag Race .  It makes your regular bike a stationary bike to work out with. Pretty cool thing just not what I need.  $70.00 and it's yours.

5' Fish cleaning station. Repaired leg.  $100.00

Heater with no glass tube and dent in top.  Free with the purchase of any other item.

« on: February 21, 2016, 12:35:39 PM »
Well we did it again only better.  4th year in a row for people's choice winner, 3rd overall for most tasted 1585 served, and for the first year we got some judging love and took first place with the judges.  Then they drew for 2 free plane tickets to anywhere and they pulled our team.

Santa Cruz chowder festival.

4 Men and a Clam

I make this chowder  for other club events, cancer walks, and different local events. and sure would like to bring some to a ncka event some day.  It's easy to make and it seems people like it.

Oh and were the only team that goes ( we went 2 weeks back ) to Lawson's landing and dig our own clams each year.  Fun family day indeed.

« on: February 20, 2015, 11:34:44 AM »
Just a heads up to anyone that enjoys a good chowder. Tomorrow is the 34th Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook Off.  There's 80 teams this year.  This is our 5th year competing and were 2 time defending Peoples Choice Champion.   We are the only team that digs our own clams from up at Lawson's landing. Its really a great family affair.

Tasting starts at 1:00pm but with the crowd you should plan on getting there closer to noon.

If you come on down stop by our booth ( 4 men and a clam) and give ours a try..

Tasting starts at 1:00pm, with 87 entries this year.

If you have never been it is a fun time for sure and ton's of differnet chowders to try.

For Sale / Wanted: Hobie Mirage drive : (
« on: July 20, 2010, 10:02:04 AM »
Yep, bottom of the ocean.. Dammit.... :smt010

Looks like my only option is new...Then get the turbo fins as well.

If anyone has any better options my loving daughter would greatly appreciate it.  And so would dad...

11
Oldest daughter asked if she could take me fishing for fathers day. I thought about it for less than a second and said heck yes.  Borrowed my friends revo and the 2 of us were off and running Sunday morning.  On the lake at 9:00am and at 9:01 I had my first bass of the day.

Stephanie wasn't impressed with my 6" bass so she cruised on by me looking for her own.

It didn't take her long.  Fish On...

Yep, her fist time in a yak and she worked it like a pro...

Fish in the box.

16" ,2 pounder....Nice way to start

We continue on and she is on again.

In the net, another fine keeper bass

And so it goes. I keep catching the small ones and she dominates the big ones.  I look over and she's bendo again.

18", 4 freeking pounds ...  Whoa!!

Kept at it for another hour, final total was 15 bass with 5 keepers in the lot.  We then just cruised around enjoying the sites.

Finished up around 1:30pm and headed home.

Hit the whole enchilada for a late lunch on the way home.

Perfect Fathers day with my girl.

12
Hit up Bayside at 6:00am for some squid then down to stillwater cove.  Got to the cove at 7:00am and had it all to ourselves.

Got our gear together and headed out.

Worked our way out to this rock and played around for a while.

Wind came up, then back down, then back up.  Worked the kelp line for 3 hours for 3 cod and a couple cold beers.  Back in for a adult beverage and just hung around the pier relaxing for a while.

My first hog trough shot..LOL

Another nice day in the bay....

Next up is going to be Big Sur.  Time to slay some reds...

13
Headed up to the promised land with a couple of buds to do a little clammin'.  Perfect day for getting yourself muddy.

Took us about three hours but we loaded up with limits of horsenecks, 7 Gouy's, 5 or so washingtons and a couple cockels..

The big boy's.

Beautiful day at Tomalas Bay and looking forward to a chowder/fritter kind of day.

ClamOn...

14
Me and a bud hit the water at 7:30am and worked our way out past the pinnacles and droped them in.  Had a 23.99 inch ling on the first drop: ) Steve was up next with the biggest cab we've seen.  24" monster with fins that looked like wings.  We worked the area with swim baits and scampies for 3 hours for 6 on the stringer.  Wind finally blew us off at 11:00.  What a killer place to yak. Had multiple other fish on and caught a good size olive as well.  Launch was a breeze both in and out.

Things learned.

Noodles work great attached to you rods. No more leashes...
Pull the mirage drive when going threw thick kelp beds.
Remember you pulled your drive and that there is now a whole there that fish can escape from  :smt005

Can't wait to learn more about this place.  What a nice place to play.....

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Lake Nacimeinto
« on: April 27, 2010, 08:59:36 AM »
Left the house at 6:00am yesterday and made the 2 hour run down to Lake Nacimeinto..

Lake is full and no-one was there.  Sweet.  Unloaded the yaks and prepared for battle.

Buddy Steve was on fire right off the bat.  Sweet keeper spot, released..

Trolled around the dam area with roostertails and ended up with 20 bass for the 2 of us.

Even scored 3 white bass.

Back to the dock at 1:30 and home by 4:00.  Nice way to burn a Monday.  Yak On..
