At some point, it’s time to stop reeling your kayak closer to the fish.

Sacto pike minnows are in the carp/goldfish family. No teeth to speak of. I caught them in Stony Creek near Stonyford on a #2 Mepps in 1975, do they’ve been in the Pillsbury area a long time. The fo fight really well for about 30 seconds then give up the game.

Another option would be sand fleas on a fish-finder rig, trying for sea perch.

You can also trap crayfish in state wildlife areas. Yolo Bypass WA has rice fields, and trapping near the control boxes near the ends of the checks can be pretty good. I’d have to think Sutter would be good. Also, rice farmers have no more love for crayfish than they do for muskrats, and they will likely give permission to trap private land.

Tahoe has some pretty big and clean tasting mud bugs. Lake Natoma used to have a ton of big tasty ones also; the water is fairly clean, and it’s a cobblestone type bottom, nearly flat across. Commercial guys, who are restricted to moving water, can’t come in  and overfish, like they did the lower Sacto River and Delta.

And folks say he’s not a duck dog! Actually the groomer puts this in because he doesn’t like his back feet or tail messed with. Second shot is from the dog sitter who said she took him to The Sign of the Whale in Point Arena. She says they want him back. We were afraid he’d run up z tan, but they just said the tips were great!

One friend put up a pole, a lot like a clothesline pole with a crossbar on top. It’s an owl perch for nocturnal rodent control. They still have gophers, but fewer. It’s gotta be better than poisons that actually sicken or kill the predators you do want around.
