General Talk / Del Valle - are they okay renting kayaks to fish from?
« on: June 22, 2008, 10:15:54 PM »
Hello all,

We are camping at Del Valle next weekend.  Are they okay renting an all day kayak to someone planning to fish from it? I know MBK won't do that so I want to make sure I don't have any issues to deal with.

Thanks for any info!

Hello all,

We will be camping there that weekend. I've never been to Del Valle, but I understand its a fantastic lake to kayak in and may even have some fish to catch.

Anyone else planning on heading over that way the end of June? Got any suggestions on where on the lake to fish??

Would love to hear from you.

Hello all!  :smt006

I'm done hibernating for the winter and want to get out there again!

Since I really only know of a couple women kayakers (not that you guys aren't great - because you've all been very cool to me) - I decided to get my own friends out there. There are going to be 5 of us. They will be renting from MBK - I will be bringing my own - would love to get out there and fish in the AM.

I am still fairly new at this and haven't been out since our fishing tournament last August!

Let me know if you want to hook up!

General Talk / For all you parents out there ....
« on: September 27, 2007, 10:50:20 PM »
Hello all,

You know how you wonder if your kids really "get" what you are trying to teach them and how well you are and have done as a parent.....if you are a parent you know what I mean. My daughter wrote this paper and turned it in to her Senior class english teacher....enjoy!

I wish you all the same kind of letter that I found on my computer keyboard this morning...see attached doc.

General Talk / Chicken of the Sea :)

Hi Everyone,

I really wanted to make it to the Bendo bash - but we have prior commitments w/friends that weekend.

I will be at Seacliff. My husband (non kayaker) asked "Are you bringing the kayak?" AGRRGGGG. A) Isn't this shark season? B) I don't have anyone kayaking with me C) Isn't rockfish (which seems to be the only fish I can catch) season closed?   Sadly, my answer was No, not bringing the kayak - its depressing. Help a sister out -
am I right not to bring it???  :smt120

Miss everyone that I've fished with only once but followed online for a while now!!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Prowler 15 w/rear view mirror
« on: August 04, 2007, 09:15:53 AM »

Hi out there,

I own a Prowler 15 Angler edition with two flush mount Scotty rod holders up front. They are too far forward for me to really use as rod holders. I needed to figure out a use for them.

I'm always looking behind me watching out for PB's, so I thought maybe a rear view mirror there...

I was laughing when I figured out that the rear view mirror attached to my bike clips perfectly to the Scotty Rod holder, and using the velcro it came with wraps around it to hold it tight.

It also doubles as a rod "lean to" - gotta love it!  :smt005

General Fishing Tips / Fishing South Lake Tahoe
« on: July 30, 2007, 08:05:44 PM »
Hey out there,

Does anyone have any suggestions for bait/etc/location for fishing for trout at South Lake Tahoe??
(I guess without a downrigger Kokanee are out right?)
 :fishing2

Anything for me would be appreciated. Also, iIf you have any experience with any kayak fishing guides up that way I would love to hear if there is anyone you would recommend.

A shark attack was one of my biggest fears when I bought my kayak and the first thing I did was install 4 large noodles in my P15.  If you have a P15, please look at my original post (http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/bb/index.php?topic=3590.msg29978#msg29978) and you will see a picture of the noodles that I am referencing.  I tied them together to make sure they would not come out if a big hole was made by a shark or rock.  My biggest fear was my kayak sinking which leaves you helplessly floating in the water.  My thought was if my kayak continues to float, the shark would eventually realize it was an inanimate object and leave me alone.  Of course, the story changes if I have fish on board.

Isda,

I think this is a great idea, one I've not heard before. I'm buying some pool noodles today for installation in my P15. Thanks for the tip!  :thumleft:

Hello all,  :smt006

I bought a small 2-speed aerator by Romar from Hook1:

http://www.kayakfishinggear.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=111

I've got one of those portable yellow topped bait buckets. From what I've read they aren't going to be big enough to keep anchovies alive and that anchovies need a filter.

Here is my question - If I get one of those large styrofoam coolers, poke a hole in the top and run the tubing down to it - could I throw the anchovies in a bait bucket in the cooler with the aerator going just long enough to get out into Santa Cruz Harbor and then throw the bait bucket over the side of the yak?

Will that work?? I just don't want to have to drag the bucket while I'm paddling and want them to stay alive.

Any suggestions would be great! Trying to keep it within budget as there are other "tackle/stuff" I have on my list...

Thanks!

Kim

Hello all   :smt006,

I being a fresh newbie and with friends asking where/when/how to catch a halibut from a kayak (interesting since I haven't caught one yet - details-details) would like to put together a "newbie halibut hunt" and invite all the newbies and pros alike to go out on Sunday, 7/29 (Church of Santa Cruz Harbor) to catch some fish!!!

I have only had 1 "lesson" from Allen (and we know he's awesome) as to how to catch halibut, but I'd like to get the party started!!

Let me know if you would like to join us - I have 3 newbies so far, Kayak Ken, Maybethere Glenn, David ifIcanwakeupthat early, and me.

Plan is to meet at 5:15 AM - can you make it??

:) Life's good when you are on the water.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Good ol milk crate
« on: July 12, 2007, 07:59:00 AM »
Hello all,

So my husband brings home a "normal" sized 13" milk crate for me to use in my Prowler 15 behind the seat......alas a 13" milk crate will not fit - I don't think they make smaller milk crates that will work in a Prowler - do they???

It would have had to be 12.5" or smaller squared - anyone have any luck with this one?

Thanks.

Kim
